Monty was thrilled about the prospect of becoming a spy. She knew her ideas of what espionage was like were probably overly glamourized by the media and Hollywood and whatnot, but it was all still very exciting.
Her first day as an official MI6 agent started with a whole bunch of paperwork. Which was unfortunate. But it was fine. After all, Monty was becoming a spy. MI6 had thought that she, Alexandra Montgomery, was talented enough to work for them.
And now she was here: sitting in a nondescript room waiting for new agent orientation to start. The other new agents were filing in, allowing Monty to get a feel for who they were.
Most of the other agents all fit roughly the same profile: English men in their early twenties. Not all of them, of course, but Monty could count the number of women on one hand.
Monty didn't recognize any of the other recruits, even though she knew a good chunk of them likely went to the same university as her. Most of the others were probably from Cambridge. Their colleges may have been rivals, but now they would all be fighting on behalf of their country.
Monty knew the UK was far from perfect. She kept trying to remind herself of this to keep her excitement in check. She knew that, realistically, there was a good chance that during her time at MI6, she was going to be asked to do something that went against her morals.
But for right now, none of that mattered. Because Monty was here, and she was becoming a spy. Monty had no way of knowing what lay ahead, but she was looking forward to it nonetheless.
