Monty and Mother had sent the kids all out to explore while they weren't working on their mission, so the kids could get a break, but Sydney had a separate mission of her own: buy Brooklyn a snow globe. It had much lower stakes than anything for MI6, but finding the perfect gift for her sister felt just as important.
There was a small Christmas market with a vaguely German theme set up along one of the streets of the Midwestern town they were in that Sydney headed into, trying to lose her siblings so they wouldn't see anything she bought. Because there were only about two dozen booths set up, this proved to be a challenge, but Sydney located a booth that was selling snow globes along with other little trinkets and staked out a position at the booth across from it.
This place sold mostly Glühwein and hot chocolate with the options of either disposable cups or mugs made special for the market, so Sydney got herself a hot chocolate. She opted to pay extra to have it in the mug, so she would have a souvenir for herself, then sat down to watch until Brooklyn came up to the booth with the snow globes.
It was starting to snow lightly, enough for it to be pretty but not so much that it was an inconvenience. Sydney wasn't a huge fan of the cold, but if it had to be cold, she would have rather had snow than no snow. She would be going to find an inside space as soon as she bought Brooklyn her present, though.
Sydney didn't have to wait too long for Brooklyn to show up, drawn to the snow globes. Brooklyn browsed for a while, glancing back at Sydney more than once.
"What are you doing?" Brooklyn finally asked Sydney.
"Just having some hot chocolate," Sydney said.
"Well, get over here and help me with this," Brooklyn said. "I'm trying to decide which one to get."
Sydney got up and went over to stand next to Brooklyn. "What ones are you deciding between?"
"These two," Brooklyn said, pointing out one with a hill covered in snow with kids sledding on it and one with a a couple of kids building a snowman inside it.
"They both look nice," Sydney said.
"That's not very helpful," Brooklyn said.
Sydney shrugged. "I don't know. Just pick one."
"I don't want to regret my choice," Brooklyn said.
"If you buy too much now, no one will have any gifts to give you," Sydney said.
"Are you saying you're going to buy whichever one I don't and wrap it up and give it to me for Christmas?"
"I can't tell you that," Sydney said.
"Ok," Brooklyn said, then bought the one with the kids sledding while Sydney went to go sit down with her hot chocolate.
As soon as Brooklyn was out of sight, Sydney went right back up to the booth and bought the snow globe with the snowman. Maybe Brooklyn would forget before Sydney gave it to her. Or maybe she wouldn't, but at least Sydney knew she would like it.
