Tru's POV
Mother is still angry at me, but I know he'll come around eventually. He's not the type of person to hold a grudge for very long. Especially given all I've done for him. Mother knows the importance of concealing people's identities. It wasn't my fault that the informant in this case just so happened to be his ex-wife. It was still my responsibility to keep what was classified secret and protect her identity.
I don't think that telling Mother that Clementine was occasionally giving me information would have really helped anything, anyway; it would have just been a source of conflict. It could have possibly even been enough to get Clementine to go into Umbra completely.
I don't know what side Clementine's on. Every time I think she really has turned evil, she always comes back with some tidbit of information. Never much, though, which makes me wonder about her motivations. If she was truly wanting to be a double agent, I would be expecting more intel, but it is possible she's only offering little bits in order to protect herself.
Clementine had always been a wonderful agent. Of all the agents below me, she was always one I never used to have to worry about. She had always followed orders exactly. If she was on a mission, all of her communications with headquarters would always be right on time. She was reliable and concerned about the greater good. The last person anyone would have expected to turn evil.
Of course, if everyone suspects you could be evil, then you wouldn't be a very good double agent. So maybe she was exactly the type of person we should have expected to turn. On the other hand, that same logic could be applied the opposite way by saying that if an enemy agency suspects one of their agents is good, then that person wouldn't be a very good double agent either. It's highly possible that Clementine's got everyone fooled and that no one is right about her true loyalties. If anyone would be smart enough to pull that off, it'd be her.
My main concern with Clementine right now is the FARM. The FARM works because no one expects it. Most people, and especially most spies, don't think of kids as being secret agents. There are other instances of it, historically, but it's rare, especially in this day and age.
However, Clementine knows about the FARM. What she plans to do with this information, though, is a total unknown. It's not guaranteed to be bad, but this is still a scary situation. Once all of Umbra knows about the FARM, our edge is gone. If Clementine wants to, she can give Umbra a huge advantage any time she feels like it. And I've made it my job to ensure she doesn't feel like it. As horrible to Mother as it may seem, by keeping Clementine's secrets, I am doing just that.
