It was late at night after the City Spies had gotten home from a mission, so Monty was surprised when she went downstairs to find Rio sitting in the living room on the sofa, still awake unlike the others who had all crashed as soon as they all had arrived home to the FARM.
"Are you alright?" Monty had asked him.
"Yeah."
"Just not tired?"
"Well, it's not like I did very much," Rio said.
"What are you talking about?" Monty asked. "You did plenty."
"No, I didn't," Rio said.
"Yes, you did. You always do."
Rio shook his head. "I'm always there, but I don't ever really do anything like everyone else does. There's just no point in me even being there."
"Rio, did someone say something to you?" Monty asked.
"No. I was just thinking."
Monty sighed. "Well your thinking's wrong. The whole reason you're here is because you can contribute. You've got skills just like everyone else."
"It doesn't feel like that."
"Not right now, maybe," Monty said. "But just because it doesn't feel that way doesn't mean it isn't the truth."
I wrote this back in August (which is why it doesn't include anything from the fifth book that would have been relevant), but I finally got around to typing it up today.
