"What?!" Cairo asked, surprised. "How did you get 75 points already?"
"How many words in are you?" Paris asked.
"We each put three down," Kat said. "I haven't been pulling very good letters, though. Only two vowels this whole game and none of my letters have been worth all that much."
"Cairo, I think this may be your best chance to beat her," Paris said. "She might never pull tiles this bad again."
"This is going to be my best chance at winning?" Cairo asked. "I'm losing by nearly fifty points. I don't even know what some of her words mean."
"The last game I played against Paris, I won by 227 points," Kat said. "He then vowed never to play Scrabble against me again."
"I thought I warned you she was good," Paris said to Cairo. "She could probably win the Scrabble world championship if she wanted to."
Kat smiled. "Cairo, you're just going to have to up your game."
He sighed. "I don't know that I can do that."
"But please try," Kat said. "I'd love to have some real competition. I can even loan you my copy of the Scrabble dictionary."
"Which she practically has memorized," Paris said.
"We'll see," Cairo said to Kat.
"I'll go get the dictionary just in case you want to look at it later," Kat said, running upstairs. "It's really helpful to know all the words you can use."
"I guess I'm studying Scrabble now, too, then," Cairo said.
"Have fun," Paris said. "I hope she doesn't destroy you too much. Also, maybe instead of trying to win, just go for only double digit losses. I've never gotten one of those."
Cairo looked at his tiles. "Maybe if she lets me use the dictionary during the game I can come up with a better word for my next turn than log."
"I hope so," Paris said.
