I took a deep breath, before walking over to the chair. I sat down in it, too scared to look up at him. He sighed before leaning back in his chair, his legs spread. This was not the way I thought I would get to see him.
I didn't even think I would get to see him again. And here he is, glaring into my soul while I'm fumbling with my cuticles. He had no emotion on his face. I was searching in his eyes, but I saw absolutely no trace of emotion, which scared me.
My heart was pounding through my chest, and I was shaking as I felt my anxiety rise. I totally forgot how nervous his company made me.
"Your girlfriend is nice-"
"Why are you back-"
As if it couldn't get more awkward...
A blush quickly sat on my cheeks, as I caught his eyes squinting at me. How do I explain to him that this is one huge misunderstanding? If I had stayed home or stayed at the bar I wouldn't be here.
"I-I'm sorry, for c-coming back," I whispered, feeling awful.
"I don't want your apology, I want to know what you're doing here."
Wow. I took a deep breath, biting on my lower lip to prevent myself from crying. He really did hate me, and I just came barging in invading his private life with his new girl.
"Your men thought I was my mom, or at least working with her," I mumbled as I kept my eyes on my dress. I heard Cain sigh, as he readjusted his posture on the chair, causing me to look at him through my eyelashes.
"Cain," I said and he cocked an eyebrow at me looking at me. I raised my head and took a deep breath looking into his eyes.
"I'm sorry for walking away that night like that. I-I shouldn't have left you like that and I'm sorry-"
"It's okay. It wasn't that harsh on me, I'm the mafia don. I take bullshit like that every day," he said, in a monotone. What did I do to the poor, kind Cain? The room filled with awkward tension, before his breath hitched making me look up at him.
"So how are things?" he asked me and I chuckled, rolling my eyes before looking down at my lap again. How do you tell your ex-boyfriend that you became a homeless druggie? It's simple; You don't.
I looked up at him and stared at him in awe before his eyes caught mine. Quickly averting my gaze, I heard him chuckle, causing me to look at him through my eyelashes. This was so awkward.
"I can leave no problem, Lucifer said you needed to have a word with me though," I said, and watched as Cain's lips curved into a smirk before his gaze fell to my cleavage. It hadn't fazed me that I was still wearing my red satin dress and that Cain never got to see me in attire like this.
"Cain?"
"Yes- I mean no. You can't leave. I sent Nikolas to check your house while you were blacked out and he found a letter from Esmeralda. You said you had no contact with her, correct?" Is this motherfucker accusing me of talking to her?
I cocked an eyebrow and frowned when I heard his taunting voice. "Are you accusing me of anything?" I asked, rage slightly evident in my tone, and he cocked an eyebrow slightly surprised by my bravery.
"The fact that you think I am says a lot, Violette."
"Well, Cain, I am not working with my mother, okay? If I wanted to be included in this mafia crap I would've stayed with you," I spoke before my mind could process anything I had said. I looked up at Cain and saw him smirking down at me, his finger fiddling with a pen.
He should've killed me.
"Ouch," he teased, a fake pout crossing his face. I rolled my eyes in annoyance, as I looked at him. He was really pissing me off.
"Can I go now?" I sneered and saw as his face became hard again.
"No."
"No?"
"You need subtitles?"
Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale.
"You don't own me," I said, trying my hardest not to snarl or cuss him out.
He scoffed before rubbing his chin, his eyes going dark. "I used to," he mumbled and I choked on air.
"Excuse you?" He was making it really hard for me to care for him.
"You can't leave in case your mother tries to send you another message. If she does, I'll send my men after her and we can catch her. When that's done, you can go," he said, and I scoffed.
"Using me all over again, hmm? Forget my apology."
"Oh, It was never accepted, darling."
Darn him and his comebacks. I was fuming with rage.
"Who's the new girl? She's pretty," I blurted out and saw an amused smile play on his lips. I bet he expected me to cower down, and kiss his feet begging for forgiveness. Little did he know.
"Mia Ricci. Daughter of the Italian mafia don," he answered teasingly. I would be lying if I said I wasn't envious of her. I flashed him a fake smile before he leaned over the table, his arms in an armrest.
His muscles bulged out of the suit he was wearing, and I had to readjust myself before glancing into his eyes. "You're staying in my mansion, and you'll behave understood?" he challenged and my inner demon was gasping for air after laughing so hard.
"Or what, daddy?" I teased and watched his entire body stiffen.
0-1 to Violette.
"Stop," he warned and I choked on a laugh as I watched how uncomfortable he looked. I couldn't help myself, as I watched him gulp the lump in his throat down.
"Relax, I'm kidding," I laughed and watched him flash a fake smile before he got up from his chair straightening his suit jacket. I watched him walk past me, and over to the closed doors.
"Well, come on. You want me to carry you?" he asked, and I rolled my eyes getting up from the chair. Getting up from the chair I walked towards the door and rolled my eyes, again just to piss him off.
"What do you want?" he asked, as he saw how annoyed I was acting.
"Sleep."
He chuckled before locking the door to his study, walking down a long hallway. It was dim and I didn't even know it was night until we got out, the fresh whiff of air entering my nostrils. I watched Cain walk over to a car and I smirked when I saw the car.
"Stuck with the same car, huh?" I asked as he walked around the wheel over to the passenger seat. He grumbled something I couldn't make out before he got into the car. I did the same and watched as Cain roared the car to life speeding off the empty street.
I looked over at Cain and he looked back at me, causing me to quickly look back at the road.
"What're you looking at?" he sneered, and I could slap him right there.
"Oh my god, look!" I yelled and he turned his head to me. I quickly planted a slap on his cheek, making his eyes turn dark as he kept driving the car. He parked the car, and I realized we were parked outside the mansion.
Huge was an understatement. Cain got out, furious and I did the same giggling walking behind him. Cain stopped in his tracks, causing my giggling body to walk directly into his broad chest. I craned my neck to look up at him.
"What do you want?"
"I don't know yet darling, but something about you screams fun."
