Megan and I both glared at Cain as if he was speaking gibberish. He called me his girlfriend, and not only I—but everyone else heard him say it. "Why're you so surprised?" Cain asked Megan, who was very red.
"Because! Look at her, and look at me! She looks used for fuck's sake!" Megan screamed her words stinging. I looked down, to prevent her from seeing any tears that might be coming soon.
"Apologize to her, now."
"What? You must be high on something," Megan scolded, crossing her arms in front of her chest. Sniffles were leaving my mouth, and I figured Cain noticed. He dragged me into our first class, which was math.
We sat down, on the seats we always sat at. The ones at the very back of the class. We weren't early but we weren't late either. "Don't listen to her, darling," Cain cooed as he rubbed my back. I wouldn't say I was heartbroken by her words.
Yes, they were mean, but that's just Megan. The day she's nice to me is the day I'll hide forever.
"It's okay," I said, drying the few tears away from my eyes. I looked up at Cain, who had a warm smile placed on his lips. I smiled back up at him, nestling into his chest, while his thumb stroked down my arm.
"Cain?"
"Yes?"
"Did you mean it when you said I'm your girlfriend?" I asked him, and I felt his thumb stop stroking.
"I did."
"You did?" I asked in astonishment as to why he wanted me out of everyone to be his girlfriend.
"I mean if you want to be my girlfriend. I just figured after everything we've done..." he spoke his words trailing off, which I never heard them do.
"I would love to be your girlfriend!" I squealed, seeing as his eyes nearly turned dark. I smiled up at him and felt his hand wrap around my throat. He pulled me close to him, so our lips were touching, looking me dead into the eye.
I think everyone was relieved that someone finally got me so that I wouldn't have to annoy anyone. But Cain looked at it way differently. He thought he had won a prize, found in a cave filled with diamonds.
Little did he know.
"Oh look, it's the emo couple!" Megan yelled as she walked into the classroom, her two minions following behind her. All three of them snickered before Cain got up from his chair. I quickly grabbed his wrist before he could do anything.
He looked down at me, and the second our eyes met each other I felt his body relax. He sat down again, his breathing heavily as he kept sending death glares at anyone who even dared to turn their head our way.
The teacher had entered the class a while ago, and as I was taking notes my eyes glued to the paper in front of me. A voice broke me out of my train of thoughts, but Cain seemed oddly alert. "May I use the restroom, Mrs?" Megan asked our math teacher.
I didn't know what had happened to Matt, he just stopped showing up after the little incident that happened the other day. Cain got up, from his seat the second Megan left the classroom.
"Where are you going?" I whispered to him, and he looked down at me smiling.
"Bathroom."
I cocked an eyebrow as I watched him leave a little a"er Megan. I just shrugged it off! And focused back on the math equations.
_____
"Don't forget the homework for tomorrow, and those who don't deliver will fail," the teacher yelled as the bell dismissed us.
Cain hadn't gotten back yet, nor had Megan, which worried me, a lot. I know Cain wouldn't hurt a woman, nor cheat on me.
So I was worried when I had to walk to English lit alone. I walked in, the class nearly filled. I walked head low, down towards my seat at the very back, and saw one of the seats already occupied.
I frowned and felt my heart skip a beat as I thought it was Cain. Cain and I didn't have English lit together, but maybe he came to greet me? I looked up and my heart dropped.
"Hello, Violette."
I rolled my eyes and turned on my heel trying to walk out before he grabbed my wrist. "Ah ah, don't make a scene now," he whispered, pulling me over to sit next to him. His bruising grip was tight, and I winced when he pulled even harder.
"What do you want, Gabriel?"
"Now, is that a way to greet your bestest friend?" he asked, a fake pout across his face. I scoffed when I heard his words, and crossed my arms in front of my chest.
"You call that friend? Getting me high, and leaving me?"
"C'mon sugar, it wasn't meant like that," his British accent ran through my ears and I felt like punching him in rage. The audacity this man held. I rolled my eyes and focused on the board seeing as our teacher lectured the students.
I couldn't wait for this day to be over with.
_____
"Hey, it's Cain. I can't come to the phone right now, but leave a message!"
I rolled my eyes, as I heard the same voicemail for the sixth time. I hadn't seen him or Megan all day after their toilet visit. I shrugged my shoulders and started walking out of the school premises.
I was annoyed at Cain because I had nowhere to go. I hadn't been home with aunt Lexi ever since I found out she knew about my mother's location and decided to keep me in the dark. Not to talk about her crazy boyfriend.
He would beat the living soul out of me if he ever saw me again. I was walking down the sidewalk when a familiar car pulled up to my side. I looked in through the rolled down window and saw Cain, his black hair wet, and dressed in new attire.
"Get in, little one," he yelled, and I walked towards the passenger seat.
"Where did you go?" I asked him, as he drove off the street smoothly.
"I had to run some errands."
I frowned when I heard his words.
"In the middle of math?"
"Mhm," he simply hummed, veering into another street. He was acting really strange, and the worst-case scenario is he had sex with Megan, went home to shower her disgusting juices off of him, and came back to pick me up.
"And Megan?" I asked him, seeing his jaw clench.
"What about that...girl?" he asked, his teeth gritted & his grip on the steering wheel tightening.
"Where did she go? She never came back, after you followed her."
"I never followed her. I went to empty my bladder and my dad called saying he had some errands he wanted me to take care of."
That made sense, right?
"Shouldn't your dad be in prison?" I asked, after a little moment of silence.
"No? Why do you think that?"
"Because the day you fought that boy...someone said it was because the boy spoke about your father being in jail and you lashed out?..."
"What, no! That's not why I was mad. Yes, he did say that but it isn't true. I might dislike my father from time to time, but he is my father and is the CEO of Garcia enterprises, which is my legacy. I'm not going to let a ninth-grader trash my father's name."
Now, that made much more sense than the whole Megan situation. I opened my mouth to speak again, but the sound of my phone ringing stopped me. I looked down at the screen and saw an unknown number.
"Who is it?" I heard Cain ask.
"I have no idea," I mumbled, pressing the green button. I held the phone up to my ear, hearing a voice pant on the other side of the phone.
"If it ain't Violette-fucking-Miller the whore!"
I looked at Cain and he had parked the car, my phone in his hand.
Oh no.
