Considering how much emotional damage his previous house had given him, Derek decided to move into his loft full time. Anybody else who looked at him probably thought he was just moving because the repairs that were needed were too much. But Fionnuala saw past all that. Besides, he was closer to his girlfriend if he lived in his loft.

Speaking of which, he looked at the time, she would be getting out of school soon. He smiled. The previous Monday, she had texted him all in caps saying that the bite had healed.

He had smiled at that. Today was when lessons began. He had texted her last week, telling her that.

Now it was time to pick her up so they could begin.

He stood at the bottom of the steps in front of the school. He had a baseball cap on so no one could see his face.

"Hey, handsome," she told him.

"Afternoon, sunshine," he responded with a smile. "Ready for lessons?"

"Yes, sir." She took his offered arm and they began to walk to his loft.

"You remember Jackson?" he said after a few moments of silence.

"No, I don't know anyone by that name. I know someone by the name of Jackass."

Derek fought back a smile. "I agree. He fits more along the lines of Jackass."

"What about him?"

"I went to see him last week. His body is fighting the bite." Derek frowned. "And I don't know why."

"Okay, so maybe he's not gonna be part of the pack."

"He was very clear about not wanting to be part of the pack."

"Oh, that's a weight off my mind." She sighed in relief. "There have been some recent developments at school, however, that Stiles failed to inform me of."

"What?"

"We have a new principal."

"Really? What's his name?"

"Gerard Argent." When Derek didn't answer, she glanced up at him. "It's definitely not good news, is it?"

He shook his head. "Definitely not. Another thing that happened last week was I saw him chop an Omega clean in half. He's a hunter, I can say that for sure."

"So in other words, tread carefully around him."

"Please."

"Of course."

"What happened at school today?"

"Well, he called me in today before I left and asked why I wasn't at school last week. I told him I had come down with something a couple weeks ago and had been put on bed rest. He asked why I hadn't taken any medication so I could get back to school. I explained that medication doesn't work on me 9/10. But Melissa McCall and a few other nurses had started trying to concoct a medication to combat my condition. It worked, but I still needed to remain in bed for two weeks so I could fully recover. He looked through my file and said that he noticed I was out most of last semester and that I had gone to summer school. I then had to tell him that I got sick a lot last semester and fell behind. So I went to summer school to catch up."

"Did he say what a smart student you were?"

"He did actually. He said despite being sick most of last semester, I had high grades that lasted through summer school and then over the time I was sick the past two weeks. He then asked how I accomplished that and I told him Stiles had been bringing my homework to me."

"So you're on his good side. That's good. Let's keep it that way." Derek opened the door and they stepped into the loft. "To begin, let's work on controlling breathing and heart rate. By the way, have you told anyone yet?"

"About being a werewolf? No, absolutely not."

"Jackson didn't ask?"

"Jackson never saw my face when he came over a couple weeks ago. So, no."

"Good."

They trained for a couple hours, before Derek said they could call it quits for the night.

Fionnuala smiled as she collapsed onto his bed next to him. "How did I do for my first day?"

"Good. Really good. You picked up on the controlling heart rate and breathing fast."

Her smile got wider as she rolled onto her side and propped her head up on her hand. "I was practicing last week while I recovered."

"So you already started your training?"

"It's not as good as an actual teacher, but-"

"But nothing, Isolde," he interrupted her, mirroring her position. "That's amazing. I mean, you lied straight through your teeth to me today and I didn't hear your heart beat faster."

"And that's why we moved on to combat training right after?"

"Yep."

"Speaking of which, I'm gonna go change my shirt." She rolled off the bed and went over to his drawers.

"Wait, you knew training started today. Why didn't you pack a fresh shirt?"

"I like wearing yours." She smiled at him. "Besides, you can't deny you love the sight of me in your shirts."

"Very true. Go ahead and change. I'll be waiting right here for when you get back."
