Y/n age 8
-seven years ago, the underground part 2--
"C'mon kiddo, wake up!" My dad shakes me gently awake. I mumble incoherently, my eyes adjusting to the light.
"It's time for breakfast." he says, brushing the hair off my face.
"Mm...dad, five more minutes." I grumble, swatting away his hand. He chuckles."Nope, now help me wake up Isabel and Farlan." he says. I groan, letting out a yawn.
"I said we leave bright and early." he tells me.
"Yeah...you did." I sigh."Come on, I'm making bacon." he says. I smile, flipping up my blanket and swinging my legs over the side of my bed.
"Next time, lead with that."He gives me a small smile and goes back to the kitchen as I head to the bathroom. I brush out the tangles in my hair and brush my teeth until the mint smell of the toothpaste is intoxicating.
I walk back to my room and quickly change my clothes, picking up Azula and carrying her to the kitchen where my dad is making breakfast.
The little morning sunlight we get is shining through the room, illuminating the dust particles falling from the ceiling. My dad is still pissed he doesn't have a ladder to get up there and clean with. The window is open, letting in the sound of people's chatter and the smell of bread from the bakery down the street. There's also a faint scent of booze mixing with it from all the alcoholics that have been awake since five am.
I set Azula down on the table and walk over to the couch where Isabel fell asleep. I nudge her shoulder.
"Isabel." I say, opening one of her eyes. She groans and yawns loudly, turning her head away. I nudge her again.
"Isabel." I shake her violently."Earthquake!" I yell.
"AH! What? I'm awake!" she jolts upright, her hair framing her face wildly.
"Breakfast." I tell her, pointing to my dad who's flipping eggs in a pan.
"What? I thought-oh my God." she groans, resting her head in her hands."Y/n are you okay? I heard yelling!" Farlan charges into the room, a worried look plastered across his face.
"Farlan's awake." I tell my dad, walking over to nab a piece of bacon.
"Why were you shouting?" Farlan sighs, running his hand over his face.
"Had to wake you up somehow." I shrug.
"Next time can we flick on the lights or something?"
"Or not yell earthquake." Isabel chimes in, kicking off her blanket."Don't be such deep sleepers and I won't have too." I retort.
Isabel rolls her eyes, dragging her feet sluggishly to the kitchen table. She plops down on the chair beside me and rests her head on the table top. Farlan goes straight for coffee, almost dropping his cup as he pours.
"Can I have some too?" I ask, looking at my dad.
"No, now eat your food." he replies, sliding a plate of eggs, bacon and toast in front of me."Hey guys, do you see a cat on this table or is it just me?" Isabel blinks at Azula, who's staring back at her.
"Y/n brought her in last night, and I told her that she had to go back outside in the morning." My dad raises his eyebrows at me. I sigh, reaching out to pick up Azula.
"But look how cute she is dad." I hold her up.
"You're cute and I still tell you no all the time." he tells me, ruffling my hair. "Now put Azula outside, she probably doesn't like it in here much anyway.""She is pretty cool looking." Isabel says, reaching up to stroke the underside of Azula's chin.
"Cat goes outside kiddo."
"Damn it." I mutter. I wait until my dad has his back turned so I can grab a smaller plate and put one of my eggs on it. I walk across the room and open the door, gently setting Azula down outside. I put the plate down next to her, wishing I had more.
"I don't like eggs much so enjoy this one." I tell her, petting her head before going back inside.
