Naruto walked from the Hyuga compound to the Nara compound. He walked slowly, but with determination, each step seemingly drowning out the sound of the village. Perhaps it did, but no one will truly know.
Naruto arrives at the steps of the compound. The clans of Konoha have already been informed of the situation regarding Naruto's gifts. Naruto walked inside the compound, not even earning a glance from the distracted guards.
Naruto sat down at one end of a shogi board, Shikamaru at the other end. They began to play. Naruto learned shogi from Hiruzen but was never too good at it. "Let's play a game, Shikamaru." Shikamaru just nodded and began to play. Naruto began to use the only strategy that he knew.
Climbing Silver.
Shikamaru saw it but didn't react. He continued his strategy blindly, soon falling to the Climbing Silver.
"I never could win against my father. He always used that strategy, finding ways to make it better. To avoid a sacrifice." Shikamaru's eyes watered. "Why could he not find a way, Naruto?" Naruto closed his eyes for a moment, a bit of silence for the Nara in front of him, reminiscing of his past.
"Jiraiya used to say to his students, and me while I was asleep: Ninjas are remembered not by how they live, but by how they die. Your father, as well as Hiashi, died protecting Jiraiya, as well as Konoha. In the end, the three died. They fought... they fought like hell. The only thing we can do for now is the same. Fight... fight until our final breath." Naruto met the eyes of Shikamaru, both of their gazes had steeled.
"Alright, Naruto." Naruto gave a smile. "Now I've heard about something you gave the Hyuga, so are you here to give us the same thing?" Naruto smirked.
"A custom gift for each of you. Suiting your clans, and fighting styles. I evolved the eyes of the Hyuga head. A gift enough to bring them to the realm of legend, much like her ancestor. I will give you a gift to surpass yours." Shikamaru nodded and stood. Naruto began a string of hand signs, moving so quickly that not even the like of Kakashi Hatake could hold a candle.
"Akuma no shinka: Kagenokami!"
An eruption of chakra came from the two, shadows dancing around the compound, and an aura of darkness looming over Konoha. Naruto soon finished giving Shikamaru his gift, stepping back from the Nara.
Shikamaru's eyes were now jet black, holding the void inside of them. His hair flowed like shadows around him, much longer than it should be. "What happened to me?" Shikamaru was not panicked, the power he gained was familiar, just very intense.
"That is the evolution of Shadow Style. The pinnacle. The founder of the Nara Clan wielded this after making a deal with the god of shadow. I called him here, and he recognized you as your ancestor's successor. In your mental space, the god himself will explain your power... and please tell him that Uzushiogakure sends their regards." Naruto gave a smile as Shikamaru sat down to meditate, his shadowy form receding.
"I'll take my leave," Naruto said to a nearby guard, just to inform them. "And do tell Shikamaru to take his time in mourning." The Nara clan seemed hopeful after the gift, much like the Hyuga clan. Everyone had seen Naruto off, after thanking him for Shikamaru's gift. Naruto soon left the compound, walking to the next destination.
Aburame clan compound.
He walked up to the compound, the guards giving him a nod as he walked inside. The area was simple, only holding things necessary, all but the library, and insect nursery. Naruto smiled at seeing the many nods coming toward him. For the Aburame, these were the utmost honor, and the equivalent of a bow. Naruto made sure to nod back at everyone, to create an equilibrium of respect.
