" In her heart, there's a hole
There's a black mark on her soul"
- Bryce Fox
If I could, I would go back in time just to take some words back. The way my brother reacted to the news that Daniel wanted to ask me out didn't fit in my head at all.
Alistair was glad. Glad...
As soon as I turned off the phone, Alistair dragged me into the kitchen, leaving Zella alone in the room. Zella kept up with Alistair and most likely also wanted to interrogate me. But today, her head is full of the fact that she killed her ex.
"When did Daniel ask you out?" Alistair leaned against the island in the middle of Zella's kitchen.
" When we were working on the project." I tipped my hair over my shoulder and stood next to Alistair. "Don't worry, I've already refused him."
"Why? You know our plan."
"Yes, but we didn't say that I had to date Daniel to get to his database. Especially since we are already working together." I couldn't figure out if my brother was serious or not. He can't let me start a relationship with Daniel just to get revenge, can he?
"The fact that you work together doesn't give you that access as if you were his girlfriend" Alistair replied sharply.
"Can't you be serious right now?" I looked at my brother without recognizing him. There was an absolute stranger standing in front of me. "You're offering me to sleep with your enemy just to get to the information you need." Alistair rolled his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest.
"No, I would never suggest that to you. Just go on a few dates with him. You don't have to agree to sleep with him. Only if you want to." I raised my right hand and hit him in the face. My brother is crazy. I understand that he hates the Lust family, but I never thought that he would stoop so low just to get his revenge.
"In recent years, you have begun to remind me of our father." I hissed. "Especially at such moments." I saw him playing with his jaw. His face was red with rage.
"I'll let you get away with it, but if you raise your hand against me again. You'll regret it."
I saw danger in his eyes. My brother never treated me like that. He would never use me like that. Alistair stood up to his full height. "Do what you have to do. Don't make me doubt you." And with that, he left the kitchen, leaving me in wordless shock.
By the time Daniel arrived, the smell in Zella's apartment was unbearable. Even with the windows open, the stench from the corpse couldn't just evaporate. Alistair and Zella were sitting on the couch and discussing what had happened. Sometimes, Zella could start crying again. Honestly, I admit, I started to be jealous of my brother for her. The way he spoke to her tenderly. As gently as he could. The way he took her hand to support her and most of all, I was offended when he lowered his walls in front of her.
It felt like a betrayal, so I never thought I'd be happy about Daniel's arrival. But I literally rushed to open the doors for him.
"Finally." I said, letting the man in.
"Already misses me?". Daniel asked in a playful tone as he walked into the apartment. I rolled my eyes at his attempt to flirt. "What's that smell?" As soon as Daniel got to the living room, he stopped, frozen in the middle of the room. His eyebrows went up, and a dumb question stuck in the air. "This is not the date I was hoping for. Okay, the corpse. But your brother, a little extra here."
