Hues of Purple

Chapter 4

 "How does this look?" Grace came out of Emma's bathroom in an outfit she brought for the party tonight. Her dark black hair fell onto her shoulders just perfectly and it matched her dark blue sweatshirt and black jeans very well. "Wow Grace... you really outdid yourself for a high school party. You look amazing, girl!" I said, she was the only one dressed up, but the rest of us looked amazing as well. I was so excited, this is my first party ever. Emma and Sophie filled me in on how it usually goes, so I feel ready for it.

"Isn't Ethan going too?" Sophie asked and we all went silent. "Yeah, he is." It feels terrible but I feel bad that I don't want to see him there. I have a feeling that he's gonna ruin something for me. "What kinda sucks is that I was supposed to hang out with him today actually. It's our anniversary today." I said sadly. The girls were sympathetic and comforted me. "I think I'm gonna break up with him-" "about time!" they all blurted out. "Is he that bad?" I suddenly felt a little insecure about my relationship choices. "Yes, he literally cheated on you, and I've heard from his friends that he talks s*** on you. Dump his a**." Emma hugged me. The feeling happened again, this is so weird. But we all got our shoes on and headed out to Emma's car. "I call shotgun!" I yell and run to the front seat, but Grace beats me. "Better luck next time," Grace teases. We all got in and Emma started the car and cranked up the music. Sophie and I in the back were belting the songs, I loved how reckless we seemed. But while singing, I couldn't stop looking at Emma. She just seemed so free and full of energy. Makes sense because she has abilities. But something else, she just makes me feel so safe.

As Emma is driving she asks "guys wanna see something I learned in training?" She looked so excited to show us. "Yeah!" We all shouted. Emma puts the window down and sticks her hand out of the car. Suddenly yellow light summoned and she manipulated it to shoot into the sky and mimic a yellow firework. It was beautiful against the darkening sky. I'm so envious of her! But I couldn't help but smile and just admire her creation.

We were all laughing the rest of the way to the party. The party was at a friend of Ethan's house, so I assumed that there were going to be a lot of the stereotypical jocks. Suddenly, I'm not too excited. But I have my friends with me, so I'll be alright. Besides, I'm a senior, I need to do this at least once in my life.

Emma parks the car and looks at all of us. "You guys ready?" All of us nodded and we got out of the car and headed in. Immediately I'm hit with the smell of alcohol and the room's humidity from all of these people. Disgusting if you ask me. Then, the man of the hour, Ethan Stone, is seen drinking with his friends. He's drunk, I wanna go home. Today was supposed to be our special day, but whatever. Two year anniversaries aren't that special anyways.

I realized I was staring for way too long, and we make eye contact. He looked guilty for a minute, probably not for forgetting our anniversary. What did he do? I decided to walk towards him and say hi and make sure he's doing alright. Despite being drunk that is. "Hey love," I said into his chest while hugging him. "H-hey babe, what're you doing here?" His words were slurred, he had been drinking for a bit. "I told you I was coming, remember? Did you forget?" He looked to all of his friends for help, what was going on? "Is there something wrong love?" He clears his throat and stiffens his body a little bit, "no, everything is fine." He smiled, but I could tell it was forced. "There's something definitely wrong, tell me." I hold him tighter, I can tell he wants me to leave. He doesn't say anything though, this isn't like him at all. Unless he cheated again.
