On the 14th of October 2004, Pinnacle Airlines Flight 3701, registered as November 8396 Alpha (N8396A), crashed near Jefferson City, Missouri, while it was en route from Little Rock National Airport (IATA: LIT, ICAO: KLIT), Little Rock, Arkansas to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (IATA: MSP, ICAO: KMSP), Minneapolis, Minnesota, Flight 3701 was a repositioning flight that had no passenger aboard the plane, both pilots on board were killed in the crash, Federal Investigators determined that the crash was due to the pilot's unprofessional behaviour and disregard for training and procedures.

At 21:35 CDT (Central Daylight Time), Flight 3701 requested clearance to climb to 41,000 feet, which was the maximum operating altitude of the Bombardier CRJ 200 series, clearance was granted byATC at 21:36 and the plane climbed to it's new cruising altitude shortly thereafter, at 21:54, the pilots began to struggle with the controls of their plane, both engines lost power and the plane's stick shaker which warns the pilots of an impending stall activated, the pilots then declared an emergency and they started descending, they temporarily regained control of the plane at 34,000 feet, the pilots then attempted to restart the engines but it couldn't be done, so at 22:09 Flight 3701 asked ATC to direct them to the nearest airport for an emergency landing and the controller on duty directed them to Jefferson City Memorial Airport (IATA: JEF, ICAO: KJEF), Jefferson City, Missouri, at 22:14 the pilots realised they were not going to reach the airport and they began looking for a road or highway on which to land on, at around 22:15 the plane crashed into the ground upside of Jefferson City.

The summary of the crash was Pilot error leading to dual engine failure.
