My midwife was on her way so Phil brought down our baby book from all the scans we've been to. My midwife was called Anne and was 56 years old. She went to school with one of my oldest aunties so they went way back with each other's families. I had met her a few times to talk about Ronnie but today I had to discuss how I wanted to give birth and things like that. She knew it was my first so she was very understanding towards me and helped me a lot in my pregnancy.
----
I saw Anne's Mini Cooper pull in the driveway. I jumped up and opened the front door before she could even make it out her car.
"Hi Anne!" I said excitedly as I went outside to greet her.
"Hiya lovely, how's our little Ronnie?" she asked as she put down her bag and put her shoes on the rack.
"He's been really good, only little kicks, he does really crave bacon tho," I said smiling and looking down at my bump.
"Bacon? That definitely means he's growing well," she said and chuckled.
"Ye it's strange but there's the baby book you wanted to look at," I said and pointed to the book next to her.
"Great!" she said and sat the book on her lap as she flicked through previous doctors notes and scans, "Yea he looks healthy, but there is a chance he could be breach?"
"What's breach?" I asked and I finally heard Phil's footsteps as he ran down the stairs.
"Hey Anne!" He said as he went into the kitchen to make his dinner.
"Hi Phil," she said before turning back to me and our conversation.
"So ye, what's breach," I asked again.
"Oh yeah! Breach is when the baby comes out bum first instead of head first."
"Oh," I said and started to wonder how actually painful this would actually be. She must have read my mind because next she started to comfort me about it all.
"Although it will be painful, it will be completely worth it, I mean you'll have a baby!"
I smiled. She always knew the right things to say. Phil walked in with a little part of his dinner, which seemed to be a piece of toast and sat next to Anne on the large sofa.
"So Natalie, will u want Ronnie to be breastfed?" She asked and my face kinda fell. It was the only thing I hadn't thought about a lot.
"Umm..." I said trying to fill the silence in the room but still unsure what my answer was.
"It's ok lovely take your time," she said and told me to breathe slowly.
"I think I should," I said but still quite unsure on my decision.
"Are you sure?" Anne said and looked at me unconvinced with my answer.
"Yea, it will be best for Ronnie and that's all I want," I said and hoped I made the right choice.
----
I shot the car keys at Phil then put on my sliders to get in the car to Jack and Sasha's. He followed behind me out the door and drove my Range Rover whilst I sat in the passenger seat.
