A/N I know gems don't need sleep, but let's just pretend that this is an AU where they do!
Lapis was not... Lapis. I mean, she was, but there was someone else-
ME.
Who is that? Who was that? It's so dark, Lapis noted to herself, and cold. It seemed so familiar to her. She lifted up an arm to brush back her hair- except she didn't; her body was moving aginst her will-
And then she remembered, she was fused with Jasper - Malachite - under the sea - HELP -
Lapis woke, gasping for breath, cold sweat dampening her hair, her heart thudding painfully against her ribs -
"Lapis...?" A sleepy voice drifted over, and a concerned Peridot came into veiw. "Did you have another bad dream again?"
Unable to speak, Lapis nodded. Trying to appear hostile but failing to hide her concern for Lapis, Peridot wrapped her arms around Lapis' waist and kissed her forehead, muttering: "now shut up and go back to sleep, loser."
Lapis smiled, nuzzling Peridot gently and pulling the flustered gem closer.
But now Lapis didn't want to go back to sleep, and she reached up and brushed her lips against Peridot's. She could practically feel the heat radiating off Peridot's cheeks, and she sniggered.
"Shut up - and I told you to go back to sleep, you idiot!" Peridot whispered furiously.
"You know, it's kinda hard to take you seriously when your hair's so messy..." Lapis drawled.
"See, this is what happens when you stay up late, you go insane later in the night!" Peridot hissed.
Lazily, Lapis reached up and put her finger on Peridot's lips. "Shhhhhh, sleepy time."
Peridot grabbed Lapis' wrist and lowered it, staring into the blue gem's eyes. Despite having flushed cheeks, she looked serious, and Lapis frowned slightly. "What-"
Peridot cut her off. "Listen, Lapis. You keep having nightmares, then pretending they're not hurting you. Look, you keep losing sleep and look where that's getting you! It's turning you into a sleep-deprived loony!" Peridot hesitated, then quickly carried on, glad that she'd managed to keep Lapis silent for so long. "It's okay to tell me if you're in pain... okay?"
Lapis swiftly nodded, lowering her head to hide the tears forming in her eyes.
Peridot hugged Lapis tightly in a rare act of affection, but then said, as Lapis drifted off to sleep: "Remember, I only said that to stop you being a sleep-deprived loony...!"
This elicted a light snort and a "whatever you say..." from Lapis, and Peridot smiled and buried her head in Lapis' hair before going to sleep herself.
