Lapis stared up at the huge ride. It must be taller that fifteen skyscrapers... okay, maybe not that tall. But still scary. But Lapis had to go on this ride, even if bungee jumping was most definitely not her thing.
But... the bungee had two seats and Lapis was by herself. She didn't want to go on alone, but she was already at the front of the queue.
"Are you by yourself, dear?" The person in charge of the ride asked. Lapis nodded in reply, not trusting herself to speak coherently.
She barely registered the ride attendant asking if there were any people willing to go on with a stranger, and she barely registered another stranger stepping forth.
From then on, the loud music and flashing lights of the funfair drowned out what everyone else was saying, and Lapis instead focused her concentration on the night sky and the huge ride she was about to go on brightly silhouetted against it.
It was only when she was strapped into the ride did Lapis look over to who was next to her, and her heart skipped a beat.
Sat next to her was possibly the most adorable person Lapis Lazuli had ever laid eyes on. She had dark skin with light spots of freckles spattered across her nose, which was small and slightly upturned. She had round green-rimmed glasses and green hair that was spiked at the top and sides.
For a moment, Lapis considered green to be a strange color for hair, until she remembered that her own hair was bright blue.
"Hey," she said. "I'm Lapis Lazuli, what's your name?" Lapis wouldn't normally talk to a stranger, but since the other girl was so cute, she couldn't help it.
"Peridot," replied the green-haired girl, before the ride pulled them upwards and they were shooting towards the black sky.
When the ride was over, Lapis' throat was sore.
The cute girl, Peridot, looked over at her with a slight smirk on her face as she watched Lapis stumble drunkenly towards the exit (albeit she wasn't too steady on her feet either).
"Nice screaming, Lapis."
Lapis felt her face heat up, and she turned to scowl playfully at Peridot.
At the end of the whole ordeal, Lapis had a phone number and a date for next week with a cute green-haired girl.
