He woke up to an empty bed, which was something he was still adjusting to. He looked at his watch and knew that Joyce had most likely been up for hours. He sat up, the door was open and the hallway lights were on.
He stood up and stretched. His knees hurt and his back was sore, but that was normal. He cracked his knuckles, a bad habit he'd picked up in Russia. He moved over to the door and opened it all the way before lumbering out to the kitchen area.
Joyce was sitting at the table, looking relaxed. "Good morning, Hop!" Her voice was light, energetic and angelic. Or maybe that last one was just him. "Do you want any coffee?"
"Do you have any idea who you're talking to? Mornings are for coffee and contemplation. Of course I want coffee." She laughed and started making it.
He watched as she worked, and was taken away by her beauty. She had him mesmerized with the way that she did things. It was clear that he really loved and cherished his wife.
"I know you're staring, Hopper." Her comment brought him out of his little reverie.
"Can you blame me? It's pretty hard to keep your eyes off the most gorgeous woman in the world."
She blushed a little bit. "Please. You're just saying that."
"Joyce, you should know that it is impossible to lie in the presence of such beauty." She laughed. "I'm serious! I wish that you could see you the way that I do."
"And how do you see me?" She had a playful tone.
"I see a kind and funny woman that is smart and strong. She cares for her family and is a very genuine lady with a huge heart. I see your generosity and your greatness. And not to mention your beauty. You're the most stunning woman I've ever seen!" He moved from his position on the wall and hugged her. Before moving to the table and sitting he kissed the crown of her head and her cheek.
Her heart had melted at his words. She loved how much of a softie he was towards her, but then he was the tough bully to everybody else. She had a feeling that he was the best man that she had met and probably ever would. "I love you, Hop."
She finished the coffees and sat down next to him, sliding the cup over to her husband. He took a sip of his coffee. "I love you too, Joyce." His hand found hers and squeezed it softly.
