He stepped inside the house, expecting the warmth of a regular house and hit with temperatures colder than what it was outside. He shivered, and wondered how Joyce hadn't frozen to death in here. "Jesus. Why-"
"Heater's broken and it doesn't get fixed till tomorrow." She took one of the extra blankets he had brought- at her own request- and wrapped it around her shoulders. Jonathon and Will both came out to the living room to grab a blanket from Hopper before retreating to their rooms.
"Joyce, you're gonna get a cold!"
"That's my line, Hop!" He laughed. "What's that bag..?" She poked the plastic bag in his hand.
"Soup."
"Why do you have soup?"
"For you and your family. Because it's cold. And soup is tasty."
"Alright..? Thanks, I guess."
"Of course. How about we watch a movie or something?"
"The soup?"
"I can make it while we watch, but it'd be nice to just sit and relax for a moment." She nodded and led him over to the couch. He sat down, noticing how cold the couch was, covered in a thin layer of frost. She sat next to him and he pulled her flush against him.
"H-Hop?" She didn't want to admit that she liked it, but deep down she knew she did.
"We can share body heat to keep warm." She nodded and cuddled closer to him, then pulled the blanket over both of them. Hopper turned on the TV and found that there was nothing in the VCR, but neither of them wanted to get up and put something in. They stayed close under the blanket, talking and trying to stay awake.
After a while, Joyce's eyelids began fluttering. "Joyce, you should go lay down."
"I'm tired, but it's too cold to sleep in there."
"The blanket should help-"
"It won't be enough, Hopper."
"Well, you can't sleep on the couch. It's not good for you."
"How about... you come and keep me warm?"
He flushed red as his eyes went wide. "Uh..?"
"Oh, come on! It doesn't have to be anything, Hop. Just... sharing body heat to keep warm."
"Are you sure?" She got up and dragged him with her to the bedroom before letting him go and plopping down onto the bed. He didn't join her at first, and she eventually turned to look at him.
"Don't be shy; I'm freezing over here!" He tentatively laid down next to her, and she curled into his side. He pulled the blanket over them both and wrapped his arm around her, and they fell asleep happy and warm.
