"Morning, Beautiful." She smiled at that, though he couldn't have possible seen her through the phone; he figured she was smiling, though. "I bet that smile lit up the room you're in."

She laughed, something he thought sounded angelic. "Mornin' Hop. Is something going on? You're never up this early." He chuckled at his best friend's joke.

"Oh, you know, just checking in on my favorite girl." She laughed again, a small tint on her cheeks that he would've noticed had he been there.

"Well, why don't you come over? I made breakfast that isn't just coffee for a change, and the eggs are only slightly burnt." He nodded, then chuckled at his idiocy and agreed to be there in half an hour.

As he was getting ready to go over there, he really reflected on his life. He had a daughter with psychokinetic powers, which was pretty crazy, he thought. He also had a best friend that he was so close to it was like they were dating.

When he thought about his best friend, he got an emotion he hadn't felt in a long time, and it was so powerful that he wasn't sure he'd felt it that strongly before. He loved Joyce, be it as friends or romantically. He thought she was absolutely perfect in every way possible, and he absolutely adored her for it. She was so amazing, with a great sense of humor and very genuine. And he loved their friendship. They were practically always together, just talking or doing something together. They called each other endearing terms and even, occasionally pet names. They had no problem being close to another, holding hands and caring embraces. They were always caring for one another, both there for the other during their hard times. Not to mention that they loved being together, no matter what they were doing. It was the perfect friendship.

She always felt a rush of love when she was around him, be it from a simple gesture like a kiss on the head, something he said, like the endearing terms she loved hearing from him, or simply just him. She was glad that she could have someone like him as a best friend and maybe even more than that.

What made them both happy was the fact that they felt the same towards each other. Joyce and Hopper were happy with their relationship.
But recently, Joyce and Hopper had become closer than best friends, although they both denied any sort of romantic attraction. It was obvious to everyone else, and if they were entirely honest they both saw it and wanted it.

But it was confusing. There were times where they were just friends, and other times where they wanted- needed to be together; needed to be close to one another. Some things that only they could do for each other, like calming a mental breakdown. But that was all stuff that friends did, right..?

Some things made it more confusing, things like the gentle gestures like small kisses on the head or cheek, holding hands, and loving embraces that made both of them want more but neither were willing to make the next move; the want to be close to each other, to just be together and hang out. Nicknames and endearing terms, sometimes even pet names that had an effect on both of them, but only when said by the other.

Weird thoughts about the other that weren't... appropriate. Comments that made them flush red. People joking about them being together something that both terrified them and made them want it more.

But then again, all those things were normal between friends. Because Joyce and Hopper were just friends... right?
