Hopper ate the last cracker in the package, crumpled the plastic, and tossed it into the trash. He walked out and was surprised to find the light in Joyce's office still on. He sighed in relief because he hadn't known where she had been, but was also confused because it was two in the morning. He stepped to the door and knocked twice, before gently pushing the door open when he didn't get a response.
Joyce was fast asleep at her desk, and he would have laughed if it wasn't sad that she was working that hard to keep her family afloat. He glanced at her again, not sure what to do. She was slumped over, with a phone in one hand and a pen in the other. Her head rested on a stack of paper with scribbles all over them; some had been ruined by an ink spill.
He smiled sadly, then walked over to her. He gently picked her up, placed a small kiss on her forehead, and brought her to the bedroom. He laid her down, then got in bed as well. She curled into his side and he wrapped his arm over her. They both slept through the night, happy and safe in each other's arms.
