Chapter 12

After our conversation I rush into my room and change into comfortable clothes, and then go into the bathroom to wash my face and put my hair into a braid. After my hair is braided I brush my teeth with my blue toothbrush and minty fresh toothpaste. I look up into the mirror and see a single tear rolling down my cheek and Jason standing in the doorway. There is only the sound of the water being on while I rinse my toothbrush off and the sound of the tv in the background. "What should we do about the call? We can't tell grandma." Jason says in a whisper only I can hear." I don't know, this is all too much for me to process in this amount of time. Jason should we call the number back?" I say." I think we should but I would have to be when grandma is running errands or out in town long enough for us to find out."he says as he is walking away from the bathroom.
I walk back to my bedroom and grab a blanket since the living room is always freezing cold. As I am about to leave I hear my phone ringing and panic shooting up and down my spine. When I turn my phone over to see the screen my heart finally slows down. I answer the phone waiting to hear the voice of Sarah on the other line. After about a minute I still don't hear anything except the emptiness. I start to panic again, but as I'm starting to press the end button I hear a voice.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Aubrey just wondering if you asked so I can tell my mom."
"No, I'm sorry I'll ask tomorrow and text you."
"Okay. I probably need to know soon."
"Okay."
"Call you tomorrow."
"Okay,bye."
As the line goes dead I hear my door creak open and see Mittens stride into my room and jump up onto my bed. "Hey mittens." I say as I lay down on my bed next to her. She curls up next to me and falls asleep as I am slowly slipping into yet another disturbing dream.
