A Thousand Days

Chapter 1

AUDREY'S POV

"1...2...3...4...Hit 5...6...7...8...and 1! It's about time you guys nailed this routine. Don't forget you only have practice Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week. Practice is dismissed." My coach announced as everyone started smiling.

            Thank goodness, we've been working on this routine since tryouts and we finally perfected it. It's still hard to believe I'm a cheerleader for the University of Florida. I major in mass communications and double minor in business and Film production. Oh, I almost forgot, I'm also look after this adorable 5th grader, Mason. Speaking of him, I should be heading over to pick him up now. After checking my watch, I realized I was already ten minutes late. I grabbed all my bags and sprinted from the locker room to my car.

            Luckily, his school was only a few minutes away, and I was able to get to him quickly. I pulled up into the parking lot and I saw him exiting the doors. He almost tripped over the stairs because the book he held took all his attention; More than likely he was just leaving the library, his favorite place besides the ice cream parlor down the street. For the longest time other kids made fun of him while he waited for me to get there, so he made himself at home in the library.

"Hey kiddo. How was your day?" He closed the door and put his head down before looking back up at me with a sigh.

"Pretty good except my favorite person was late picking me up today." He placed his book in his lap and put on his seat belt before turning to look at me.

"I'm sorry. How about I make it up to you?" I replied, hoping to find some sort of smile on his face.

"Okay where are we going?" He asked with that adorable smile and his big eyes that I had come to adore.

"Don't worry about it. Just sit back and relax." I said while ruffling his hair. I turned up the radio and we started screaming the lyrics to the top of our lungs.
