AUDREY'S POV

__________________________________________________________________

"I swear he recognized my face." I said to Kayla as I fixed my hair.

"Maybe he did. You should talk to him." She said while reapplying her makeup. Kayla obviously didn't hear what I said because there was no way I was going to strike a conversation with Justin. I may be bold and spontaneous at times, but talking to attractive guys was definitely not my forte, and she knew that.

"There's no point. Girls are surrounding him, watching every single move he makes, and even if I get past them his body guards would be right there." My hair remained crazy, despite my attempts to tame it.

After realizing my hair would not do what I wanted it to, I stepped back and looked at myself from head to toe. I had on a shiny gold  bodycon dress with black heels and my hair was straight. I only straightened it on the holidays. I kept my makeup on the natural side, only putting on some mascara and lip gloss. Kayla had on a a striped silver bodycon dress with wedges and she went full out for everything. I applied some more lipgloss as we headed out the bathroom. I forgot to grab my phone so I ran back to get it. When I got out the bathroom Kayla was no where to be found. I searched for her everywhere and then I headed to the bar. That's when I got a text from Kayla: Sorry, I met an old friend and we decided to split. Have fun and find a new years kiss. ;)

Leave it to kayla to leave me alone in a club, when she knows how awkward I am. There I was, alone with a bunch of guys who had soaked themselves in way too much axe spray at the bar. It sounds like the perfect way to spend new years, right? Nope. My mind wondered to who Kayla could have possibly left me for, hopefully, not one of her messed up exes.

"You come here often?" Said a familiar voice. I looked up and it was Justin. I couldn't help but laugh.

"That has got to be the oldest ways to start a conversation." I said laughing. He probably thought I was crazy for laughing that hard, but dumb, cheesy pickup lines always made me laugh.

"Have we met?" He asked with a piercing gaze. I could tell he was searching for the time he met me before by the way his eyes never met mine.

"Yeah. At the ice cream parlor a couple of months ago." I said. The smile on my face left once I thought about how much had changed since that day.

"Oh yeahhhh... Audrey right?" I simply nodded before his voice interrupted my thoughts
"How's the kid? Was it michael-no, Mason?" He questioned.

"Um He passed away in a car accident, um not too long after we met." I don't think I'll ever be able to forget that day. That day seemed like a dream until I heard the news: I received an A on my exam paper that I barely finished at 4 in the morning, our team found out we were going to nationals, and I would be able to visit my family soon. It was on my way to pick him up from school that I got the call.

"He was um hit by a drunk driver when he was coming back from vacation. He survived the accident, but a few hours later he died." I said looking down. I don't understand what makes people think drinking and driving is okay. It has consequences and hurts others.

"Oh I'm sorry to hear that." he said.

"Thanks. So what brought you here?" I said wiping away the tear I hadn't even noticed fall from my eye.

"My friend knows the owner of the club." He said nodding before taking a sip of his drink.

"Same. Well I guess not really, my friend's cousin owns the place." I said.

"It's a small world after all. So where is this friend?" He said looking around.

"She actually left me for some guy." I said. My favorite song came on and I couldn't resist the chance to go out on the dance floor, so I did the unthinkable: grabbed his hand and headed out to the dance floor.
