Her fist whirled past my face.

I moved away, using the opening to throw my punch. She leaned back, my fist missing her by a mere centimeter. Grabbing my wrist she opted to throw me off my feet. I drew my arm back, and Mikasa stumbled onto me.

She grabbed my shoulders and pushed me towards the ground. While falling I spun us around so that I was the one on top.

We hit the ground, our bodies intertwined. I reached for her arms to keep them in place, but she kicked me off before I got to them. Ignoring the pain in my side I rolled to my back and braced for impact. She threw herself at me, the sheer force cutting my labored breath short. Mikasa straddled me, gripping my forearms. Using all my strength I pushed back, keeping my arms above the ground.

If she pinned me down, she'd have won.

Meeting her fierce eyes I for a moment didn't see her grays, but icy blues. Her scowl, her hooked nose, and her blonde hair.

I saw Annie.

Annie.

Mikasa took advantage of my moment of weakness and pinned my arms down. She had won, but I barely registered the match was over. Mikasa got up, leaving me on the ground.

Annie. Reiner. Berthold. Marco. The names swirled around my headspace, the memories soon following. Everything I had suppressed from yesterday came back to me in a jumble of images and voices. Annie, Reiner, Berthold-–three titan-shifters. Marco—his life spared. And me—sacrificing everyone for Marco and my lives

The grass I lay on started fading—transforming into air as the memory of flying through Trost that day returned. I sat up, forcing the sensation to a stop.

My mind kept buzzing as I blankly watched some of the sparring cadets.

I saved Marco from death, discovered three of my comrades were titan-shifters that had breached wall Maria, told them my darkest secrets, and almost had to knock myself out after remembering to get some sleep. I simply could not wrap my head around the fact that I had chosen my and Marco's lives over hundreds of other potential victims. And what made me do it? Levi. All because I didn't want him to be alone.

Mikasa offered her hand, and I grasped it after a moment of hesitation. She pulled me up, giving me a suspicious look.

Looking at her now, she's nothing like Annie. Her dark hair, slightly curved nose, and steel eyes... Nothing like hers.

Best of all, she wasn't a titan on a mission to kill us.

"Are you not well?" She asked, stepping towards me, cautiously raising a hand to my forehead.

Close up I didn't get how I could see Annie in her. She resembled Levi so much, the only big difference being their height.

"Y/n?" She asked again, snapping me out of my thinking. I blinked, suddenly aware of her palm still on my forehead.

I stepped back, "I'm alright." I said, though more to convince myself than her.

Was I okay? After everything I'd learned, was I alright?

Around me, the other cadets were still sparring with one another. None of them had noticed how I had lost. They were all just minding their own business, working to become people who would save humanity. They all had different reasons–yet they still managed to work together for a brighter future. They all wanted a happy life, for themselves, their family, and others.

And I might have taken that away from them.

Was I really fine with that? Was I fine with having made that decision?
