I looked to my side and saw the corporal glaring at Charlotte, who now had stopped laughing and stared back at him scared out of her mind.

"Wait, the corporal?"

It was as if the corporal's mere presence had whisked all the anger away from me. I felt calm, and my muscles were relaxing.

Unconsciously I leaned into his touch, for some reason it felt....good.

"Fifty laps around the HQ, now." Corporal  ordered Charlotte after a long time glaring at her. His words made the petrified girl's body tense up. It's obvious she didn't think she'd get caught.

"Serves her right."

"Y-yes sir!" The frightened girl managed to stutter out before scrambling off to run her laps.

---

Once she was gone Levi turned to me, still not removing his hand from my shoulder.

"Come with me." He gave my shoulder a final squeeze before letting his hand fall back to his side. Levi then turned around and began walking out of the mess hall.

I took one last look at my ruined soup, then got up from my seat and followed him.

I quietly walked behind him, which was awkward for the both of us. Especially when none of us was planning on starting a conversation.

Meanwhile he was occasionally looking back to see if I was still there, I tried to come up with a reason he would want to talk to me, let alone help me get rid of Charlotte.

...

"There's nothing he would want to talk to me about, so why? Why is he doing this?"

---

We were now standing inside his clean office, Levi standing in front of me leaning on his desk.

He looked at me and sighed, then closed his eyes and raised his hand to pinch his nose bridge.

I found his behavior quite strange, he seems almost....soft. Maybe Armin was right...Levi and I might actually be somewhat friends.

Or else we wouldn't be standing here now, right?

"How long has this been going on?" The corporal broke the awkward silence with a question, which to I decided would be better to play dumb than answer truthfully. After all, I can't remember him. For all I know he could be toying with me right now, just waiting for me to cave in. But no, I won't let that happen.

"What do you mean?" My steady voice didn't hint of any fear, which would be enough to dismiss anyone's questions.

But sadly, not the corporals.

He opened his eyes and removed the hand from his face. Staring me dead in the eye, disbelief written all over his face he spoke once again.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about.... but forget it....seems like it was the wrong thing to ask. So let me try again, are you doing okay?"

I opened my mouth to give him another lie, but before I could utter a single word Levi started speaking again.

"Don't even try to hide it, I've seen how you've been struggling. This facade of yours is very easy to see through, you know that right? Something's up, and I want to know what."

I was taken aback by his sudden statement, how did the corporal know all of this? Was I really that easy to see through?

He had totally backed me into a corner, just like with Armin there was no possible lie  that he wouldn't see through.

"W-what am I supposed to answer? He.....he planned this from the beginning, didn't he? Darn, this sly bastard..."

"I'll ask you once again, are you okay?"

Looking down in defeat, I was about to tell him about everything.

But just as I was about to start, Levi's office door shot open, revealing none other than Hanji themselves.

"Leeeeeviiii! Guess whaaaat!"

"For god's sake shitty-glasses, will you ever learn to knock?" The corporal exclaimed as the brunette suddenly stopped to look at us. They took a few seconds to analyze us, as a creepy smile slowly crept onto their face.

Their glasses suddenly began shining in a very unsettling way. "Oh, I see how it is..."

"Hanji no-" Levi tried to stop the madperson but they obviously did not listen.

"You're on a date! Finally!" They jumped up and down waving their arms around, squealing excitedly.

"What the hell?"

"For fucks sake shitty-glasses...."

Hanji jumped up one last time, cleared their throat, then clasped their hands together.

"I'm so sorry to disturb you two lovebirds,"

Levi made a tch-sound at Hanji's "lovebird" remark, while I just rolled my eyes.

"But I have something really important I need to talk to shorty about, in private, if that's okay." Hanji glanced over at me, and I immediately understood they wanted me to leave.

I nodded my head slightly to show that I understood. Then walked past them and out of the room.

Once I had closed the door behind me, I let my thoughts take over my mind as I began walking.

"I can't lie, that was actually kind of embarrassing... Like, me and the corporal? Ha! They must be joking....at least I think they were...."

I swiftly rounded a corner, gently brushing my arm against its polished surface.

"Why in the world would the corporal want to help me? Surely he has more important things to do... So why would he want to waste his precious time on me? This is too much, even for me...What the heck am I supposed to do?"

I rounded yet another corner, only this time I bumped into someone.

Books and papers went crashing down on the floor, as the other person let out a small yelp of surprise.

The person, who I recognized as Armin, apologized and bent down to pick up his belongings. I quickly followed, helping the poor boy collect his scattered things.

He glanced up at me, with a surprised look on his face.

"O-oh y/n! I was actually looking for you! I didn't expect to find you like this... but I guess it works."

I looked at him with a questioning look, waiting for him to explain further.

"So you know how that book said it was possible to speed up the remembering process?"

Nodding a bit as the memories from the library came back to me, Armin took it as a sign to continue.

"And so I thought you could try reading about some things that happened a while back, it might help trigger some memories...so uh I wrote this."

He held out a bunch of papers to me, which I reluctantly took a hold of.

"Promise me you'll read them, alright?" Armin looked at me, pleading.

"Who was I to refuse such a kind offer?"

"Alright, I promise."
