I heard Jade before I saw her.

"Get my client out of holding immediately. You have nothing to hold her on."

Jade breezed into the corridor with the holding cells, all red bottom heels, sleek designer power suit which fitted her like a glove. Her hair was long and chocolate brown. Her slightly fanged canines gave her an ethereal appearance.
This woman had a presence like no other. She oozed confidence, sex appeal and charisma but she could also take you down with one sentence and make you wish you hadn't breathed let alone talked.

My heart lifted when I saw her and I silently thanked god. Now she was leaning against the railing of the cell waiting impatiently for the officer on duty to unlock it so I could be taken back into an interview room to speak with my lawyer.

Once the door was open she took off towards the interview rooms spouting off about procedures not being followed and how many violations she was going to slap them with.
I followed behind her in my cuffs, smirking. This friend of mine was dynamite!

"Get those cuffs off her." Jade barked at the officer once we reached the room. "And I want that gallery cleared, cameras off. Attorney-Client privilege. Learn it, remember it."

The officer nodded and left the room.

Jade sat down opposite me.

"For fucksake Freya." She said.

"It wasn't me." I protested.

She tilted her head. "It wasn't you or it, wasn't, you."

"It wasn't me." I repeated.

"Well good news is they have fuck all. Your car was seen near the scene and some arrogant prick of an officer has put two and two together and come up with ten." She said.

I leaned in closer to her.

"He's done it on purpose Jay, he had me dragged in because he wanted to see me. It was him who took me to holding. He's not right babe, a few sandwiches short of a picnic."

Jade straightened her back and put her palms flat on the table.

"Jesus fucking Christ!" She exclaimed in a whisper.

"How did you meet him?" She asked.

I took a breath in.

"A while ago, he propositioned me, I turned him down. It got nasty and I got away. I thought that was the end of it but apparently not. I drove past him a few nights ago while I was on a job. Now he's had me hauled in over this bullshit, that's not even my bullshit.....They know my visa is expired and I was carrying a blade."

"Pshhhh" She blew out as she flapped her hand at me.
"I have that covered. Don't worry, and the blade is a family heirloom I'll find a way out of that too."

"You sure?" I quizzed.

"Frey, do you know how much you pay me?" She stated with her eyebrow raised. "I don't paint the soles of my shoes myself." She laughed as she said the last part. There was a pause then she continued.
"There's a blonde in a leather kutte out front. You know anything about that?"

"Shit" I said closing my eyes momentarily "Jax. He was there when I was arrested. If he's still out there when you leave, I need you to tell him from me to NOT tell anyone!, I also need you to contact Marcus, he'll be worried."

"Sweetheart, you worry too much. You'll end up looking old before your time." She told me smiling.

Slapping her hands down on the table she stood up.

"Right! Let's get this party started so we can get you home. And me." She winked. "I have a very sexy, very accomplished husband waiting for me in bed."

She headed towards the door. Pulling it open she began giving orders and demanding the officers return so she could set things straight.

Returning to the table she opened her bag and pulled out numerous papers. She started to speak as the man and woman from earlier entered, keeping her eyes on what she was doing.

"Mrs Vergo, your client......" The man started.

"My client, Mr Webb" Jade snapped back. "Has bugger all tying her to the scene of the crime. Her car was seen in the vicinity....... I wonder, have you arrested every other car owner that was in the area that night? You had no grounds to arrest her."

"Her visa is expired." The female officer stated.

Jade smiled at them.

"Oh good, I was waiting for that to come up, my client filed I-601 for an overstay forgiveness. If it hasn't been processed that's a problem with the system not her." She brandished a file in hand. "I have a copy of the relevant paperwork here."

I looked down at the table to hide my growing smile.

"And before we start in on the "weapon" it's not illegal to be found with a blade in this state, under the penal code and I'm sure if you take a good look at it you will see that it is a family heirloom with a crest on the hilt."

"It's a felony to conceal that type of blade. You should know the open carry law" the female officer sniped."

"Do me a favour, she'll get a misdemeanour and pay a fine because she would rather put it somewhere safe than walk around the streets waving it about. You Americans do confuse me, and you wonder why your country is so fucked."
Also, I'd like to know what will be done in regards to one of your officers? Does he make a habit of wrongfully arresting woman that reject him?"

The officers were dumbfounded, looking at each other for the next move.

"We will have to take these." Officer Webb said.

Jade looked at them and when they didn't move gestured like they were stupid.

"We'll go on then. And send someone in with some tea. I'm gasping."

Once left alone we chatted quietly about other things. Her recent holiday to Barbados, her kids and husband. My lack of.

"How's the heart?" She asked.

"Still broken" I answered.

She chuckled.

"You need to get over this already babe. It's not like you at all."

When Jade and I had reconnected some time after I had started working with Alvarez, we had smoked a joint and drove around for hours looking for an English chip shop. I had spilled my guts to her about everything Happy and she had listened and eventually we had laughed. Finding common ground with Jade was easy we had grown up in London together, we held a lot of the same principles. Our only big difference was I broke the law and she was supposed to uphold it.
