A week later the day before my court date I was back in my old apartment. It was pretty much the same way I had left it, apart from the fact that Gemma had definitely been here to clean before I moved back in. Not a speck of dust was present.

Happy walked through the door carrying two boxes.

"What's that?" I asked nodding towards his hands.

"Alarm system and camera." He told me, showing me the items in his hands. "I think your lawyer just pulled up."

"Really?" I was perplexed, she hadn't called to say she was coming.

With that a knock came on the door and I called out that it was open.

Jade strode through the door brandishing a bottle of vodka.

"I have news!" She said in a sing song voice. "And a big bottle of vodka."

I grimaced.

"You can drink that on your own."

Jade smiled widely. She knew I didn't like vodka which is exactly why she brings it.

"I don't think getting plastered the day before my court appearance is the best thing to do." I said with my eyebrow raised in question.

"There is no court tomorrow babe." She answered me with a wink.

"What?" I practically choked.

"Law is like magic hun, there's always a loophole, you just have to be willing to pay the price."

Jade slid a folded piece of paper over the breakfast bar towards me. She tapped it.

"That's the price."

I opened the paper and read the figures on it, Happy reading over my shoulder.

"How much?" His eyes were wide as he looked at me, but I nodded to Jade, who smiled and gave a nod back.

Happy pulled me aside by the material of my top.

"Where are you going to get that type of money?" He asked concerned .

"Don't worry about it." I pacified him. "I have it."

At the confused look on his face I spoke again.

"Did you think I killed people for free?" I whispered.

I patted his chest and moved to grab Jade a glass and mixer for her drink.

"So do I need to know the details or not?" I asked her once she had poured the vodka and orange.

"No." She replied lightly with a shit eating grin. "It means you can go to the wedding that you wanted to go to tomorrow."

I smiled brightly. I had almost forgotten about Opie and Lyla's wedding with all the anxiety of the court date.

Jade lifted her drink in toast and gave me a wink. I owed her big time. She was right about the magic she was a bloody magician when it came to getting me out the shit.

We sat and chatted for hours and then she left with strict instructions for me to be on my best behaviour for a while at least. Let the dust settle.

Once she was gone Happy looked up at me and I could tell he wanted to say something.

"What is it?" I probed.

"You didn't bat an eye at the amount on that paper, that's a shit load of money." He said his voice tinged with pride and slight smile on his face.

"I don't exactly lead a lavish lifestyle babe, I've saved a lot over the years." I replied.

A moment passed before I spoke again.

"The last time you got an insight in to my business you wasn't best pleased. Was that more about who I do business with?"

He looked me dead in the eye.

"Seeing that side of you. I wasn't prepared for it, I knew you didn't exactly take potshots in alleyways but I was able to separate you from it. Until that day."

He took a breath and shook his head slightly.

"Now seeing you brush off that amount of money like you did. It's impressive. Your impressive."

I felt self conscious all of a sudden. The way he was looking at me was like was seeing me for the first time. Seeing all of me not just as the girl I was when I arrived but as the woman I had become.

Happy came to me, brushed the hair out of my face and smiled.

"Your a hell of a woman Freya, I don't know what you're doing with me."

"I love you." I said in a small voice. "I'll love you until it kills me."

"That's not what I want." He replied with his eyebrows furrowed.

"No, but when do things ever go the way we want." I said.

He pulled me into a hug and spoke into my hair.

"We can do this baby, I've never been more sure of anything in my life as I am of you."

I wished I felt the same way. I loved him with every part of me. I lived and breathed him. But I wasn't sure of him. I wasn't confident in his love for me, and I didn't know if that was because of how turbulent our relationship had been or because I had groomed myself not to trust him.

"So moneybags." He changed the subject. "Opie and Lyla's wedding present is on you then."

"Your such a tightarse." I laughed.
