Xiao led the one-man charge. (No one else did the same thing except Ganyu and she got to stay so he was the only one.)
Where? He was trying to figure that out. He checked everywhere that he thought would be the Evil Man's secret lair (yes that's what we're calling the head honcho of the whole 'go get milk and never go back' operation.) Enough was enough, and Xiao would end his tyranny today.
Unfortunatley, as the sun began to set, Xiao had still not found the culprit, so he decided to visit good ol' peepaw Zhongli for some tea and advice.
He had just made it to the teahouse when all of a sudden, he saw Zhongli dashing away from the corner of his eye. Concerned that he was being chased, he followed him as he had great respect for Morax, and would not want him to come to harm.
What followed was a sight that horrified Xiao for centureis to come.
He saw Morax in front of the confiscated figurine.
This couldn't be real. I mean, it could be an understanding, right? Zhongli could've ended up there when he was chased, yknow, backed into that corner by coincidence, or maybe it was on purpose because the perpetrator wanted to frame him so that Morax could lose a valuable soldier, or Zhongli was threatened/forced into keeping it safe, there's no way he'd willingly-
"So you've come, Alatus. Yes, it was me behind it all along."
Oh my god whoever it was was powerful enough to make Zhongli actually feel threatened to be a cover
"I'm sorry you had to find out this way. But alas, I knew this day would come sooner or later."
Don't worry peepaw I'll free you from this wreched dastard.
"So, Xiao, now that you've seen this, I will have to unfortunatley silence you"
Damn this mastermind is smart, he knows that Xiao would never fight Zhongli in a million years-no, for eternity. For thousands of eons to come.
"See, I was getting annoyed that so many adepti were retiring to spend time with their kids and partners that'll die out in like 50 years. I was losing manpower for nothing. And when I saw you frantically searching around Liyue today, I knew that I didn't have any time left, so I still went to hide my efforts in vain. I really hoped that I could keep this bond between us longer, but alas, it ends today."
"No, Morax, Sir! I know you're being manipulated into this! Look into my eyes! This isn't you! This isn't the Zhongli we all know and love!"
It was then that a hint of regret flashed in the old former archon's eyes.
"I'm sorry, Xiao, but what you see here is real. I hope you survive from this encounter. If you don't, I'll honor you as you join your late comrades. And if you do, I pray we never cross paths again and that you from then on lead a happy, peaceful life." Then he summoned his meteoroid, with the intent to kill.
Shit turns out peepaw wasn't framed and this shit's real 💯💯🔥🔥
As it got closer and closer to Xiao, his life started flashing before his eyes. The happy ones, the painful ones. The difficult ones. The moment where he lost all hope, and yet she was there to bring him some sort of comfort. Everything...didn't really hurt in the end, as he once thought it would when the time came.
Everyone...thank you. For the tears, for the laughter, for the comfort I feel in my final moments. Thank you for not wasting my final moments before death away thinking about what could've been, what I could've done, but instead on what I could do. Though it ends here...I do not regret anything anymore.
(A/N): no nothing's over i have more planned 😈
