I was shocked to see Samantha standing right next to New. They slowly started walking through the remains of the house that my dad once created. Once they reached the middle of the house, they stopped. They saw Nate and myself standing in the doorway.
"Everyone, please come out of that room. We are not here to hurt anyone but we will if needed," New said.
"We will not leave this room. We are not going anywhere with you guys," Nate replied.
"Sanjay, please let's be reasonable here and talk. I don't want a repeat of what happened to your parents to happen here. I am giving you guys this one chance to give up peacefully," New said.
"It's because of what you did to my parents, your friend, that I don't trust one word coming out of your mouth. We will not give up without a fight," I replied.
"Well, have it your way. Arrest these individuals and use any force necessary to capture them dead or alive," New said.
Nate looked at me, "We have to give them a chance to leave. Let's put up a shield and hold them back as long as we can."
"I'll push them back first and then you can go give them instructions and remember to bring back the amulet of protection," I said.
Nate turned around and ran to help the people in the transportation room.
I took a deep breath, covered my mouth and said, "Ventus Repellere," which created a strong gust of wind. I was able to take the wind and shape into a powerful vortex of air and hurled it at New and the other officers. The magical police were caught off-guard by my sudden attack, and were thrown back by the force of the wind. They stumbled and fell, their magical baton fell from the impact. I knew that I had the upper hand for the moment but it was not going to last. I was using my mouth to create the wind so I knew it was only going to last as long as air was coming out of my mouth.
After a few seconds, I was out of breath and the wind tunnel disappeared. The magical police were able to get up.The police were regrouping, their eyes narrowed in anger and determination. They raised their baton and began to chant their own spells, sending bolts of lightning and fire towards me. I had to dodge and weave their attacks. I had to keep this up until Nate returned.
Nate returned with the Amulet of the Phoenix. It was an ancient amulet that was imbued with fiery magic of the phoenix. Nate and I knew the protection spell that was needed but the spell required a great deal of magic energy. I looked at Nate and he understood just from the glance.
I quickly came out from my hiding spot and stood in the middle of the room where I could see New and his goons clearly. I crouched on the floor and said, "Solum Tremere." All of a sudden, the earth began to shake and tremble under their feet. This was the distraction that we needed in order to try to cast the protection spell. As New and the other officers attempted to regain their balance, I ran to Nate. We held the amulet in our hands and raised it high into the air. Then we said, "Murus protector." After we spoke the incantation, the amulet began to glow with a bright, golden light. The light started to spread outward, forming a shimmering wall of fire in front of us. The wall of fire was tall, wide and completely impenetrable. We were able to successfully cast the spell but it left Nate drained. He was so weak from casting that spell that I had to carry him to the transportation room. I closed the door and went through the emergency escape door that was left open for us. After we went through the door, I helped Nate find a chair. I went back to the door I just came through. I said,"
By the power of magic deep,
I call upon the elements to keep
This pathway sealed and closed,
From all who come, to all opposed.
The door closed shut and disappeared. I turned around to see everyone still afraid and weary because they were not sure about what just happened. Then a woman named Milk came and started directing everyone into another part of the house. This must have been another of the houses that Nate was talking about that was keeping people safe. All the kids and the non-personnel went to the kitchen to eat while Nate,Sun, Indigo, Milk, Samantha and myself went to another room to talk.
"I am happy that everyone was able to get away," Samatha said.
"We barely got away. This is getting too dangerous and I don't think we can keep doing this to the young kids," Indigo said.
"What do you mean?" Sun said.
"I think that we should send the kids back with foster parents that support our cause. This lifestyle is not healthy for these kids. We are on the run, not them," Indigo said.
"I don't agree. These kids need our protection because what if they choose to live their life in a way that the ministry does not permit. We might be too late to help them. I am not sure if you know but they started passing regulations that allow kids to be removed from their parents house if they are deemed different. I don't want to risk it," Sun said.
"Those ministry goons were ready to hurt and possibly kill everyone," Indigo replied.
"I understand what everyone is saying but let's not be too hasty in our decision," Nate said.
" I think we should fight back," I said, which caused everyone to look at me as if I was crazy.
" What," Nate said.
"I think we should fight back. These magical houses are only a temporary fix. They will find a way to pull each of them from wherever they are. Then what? We can't keep running. We have to fight and force them to change the law. We are no different from them and we deserve to be treated the same," I said.
"I know everyone's adrenaline is still high so what about we continue this discussion tomorrow. I don't think we can make a decision right now," Nate said.
Everyone agreed to stop the discussion for the moment and complete it tomorrow. Nate, Samantha, Milk and Indigo went to the kitchen to go check on everyone. I took Sun and found a room to be alone with him. Even though we were out of danger, I was still in the fight or flight mode. I quickly took off my clothes and climbed on top of him. I haven't had the chance to kiss him or felt the warmth of his skin upon mine. He started gently kissing my body which calmed me down. That evening, we had sex but it was different. It might have been because we almost just died. Afterward, he wrapped his arms around me as I started to fall asleep. I was not sure what to do next but I knew that running away was not the answer. I was ready to fight for what I believe in.
