Chapter 7

Sun and I walked through the door that was in the woods and it transported us to a hallway in a house. I was surprised because I was not expecting to enter someone's house through that magical door. I looked at the nearest window and nothing. The house seems to be in a realm of darkness and emptiness. I think it was what my dad called the void dimension. It was a place where the laws of physics and magic were twisted and distorted. The void seemed vast and endless, stretching out in all directions with no discernible horizon or landmarks. From what I could see, it was an entire dimension devoid of any substance or matter. There were no stars in the sky, no sun or moon to mark the passage of time. Sun looked at me for answers but I was as lost as he was. We started to hear people talking and walking around. Then a man started ed us. I didn't know what to do because he kind of looked intimidating with the tattoos on his body. He was not extremely tall but he was tall enough to make me weary.

"Sanjay, welcome to Baan," the man started to say, " why don't you two go and rest up in this room and we will talk later," the man said.

We followed the man into a bedroom. The moment I walked into this room, I felt like I was somewhere that I have been before. The man left the room and left me and Sun alone. Sun laid on the bed and I started looking around the room. I was surprised to see a framed picture of me, my mom and dad. I sat down on the bed puzzled by what I was seeing. I walked toward a strange door in the room. I tried to open it but it didn't budge. The same man entered the room.

"I know this might be a little bit strange for you both but you are safe here. My name Nate and I am an old friend of your father and mother. We built this place of refuge for those the ministry deemed deviant. This is not the first time you have been here. The door you just tried to open was originally connected to your parent's room but it stopped working on that tragic day," Nate said.

"Your father left this letter for you just in case something like this happened. When you are finished, you can come outside. We are about to sit down to eat," Nate said as he was about to leave the room.

I took the letter from Nate and saw my name written on the envelope surrounded by hearts. I opened the letter and automatically knew that it was from my father because I knew his handwriting.

Dear Sanjay,

If you are getting a letter from Nate, that means something must have happened and we are not on this plane of existence. As I write this letter, my heart is heavy with sadness. I wish I could protect you from the challenges and difficulties that lie ahead, but unfortunately that will not be possible. I need you to be strong for the days to come will be difficult. The people at Baan are trustworthy people that I have worked with for the past few years helping a lot of people so you can trust them

. I want you to know that you are one of the greatest blessings in our life and we love you more than words could ever express. I am sorry I didn't tell you about what we were working on before but I didn't want to endanger your life. I wanted you to live a normal life.

So my dear child, be strong and courageous. Embrace the unknown with a brave heart and an open mind. Believe in yourself, and know that you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to. We will be with you every step of the way. Remember you are special, you are wonderful and we will always love you whether it is in this plane or the next plane of existence. We love you.

After reading the letter, I tried to be strong and not cry but I was tired. I tried to hold back my tears but the weight of my emotions caused me to be powerless. I pressed my lips together in order to stop the quivering that had already begun but failed. I tried to compose myself but the tears finally broke free, rolling down my cheeks in silent, salty streams. Sun came over to me and gave me a hug.
