Taylor sat happily stuffing her face with warm fries. She glanced at Stone who had begun to start trying to drink his frosty, but the thing was still frozen. She glanced at the dull place that once seemed thrilling. This Wendy's, despite the dull colors, was reminding her of a memory of her childhood. A memory of this being her first restaurant she went to with her dad.
"Did you get all you wanted?" Stone asked her, setting his cup down with a solid thump.
"Yeah. These chicken nuggets are the best!" She said happily dipping one into her ranch. Stone chuckled
"Good. I feel like we haven't really eaten since we left. I'm sorry about that."
"No harm done. I'm sure once we get to where we're going, we'll stock up.""Yeah, I was thinking before we get into Alaska we'll find a clothing store and get you some proper attire and I'll stock up on food."
"Mmkay." Taylor bounced her leg a but "Um I do have to ask. Why don't we just fly there? I mean wouldn't it be faster?"
"Yes. But you don't have a passport." Taylor bit her lip
"Oh. Why do I need one?"
"To travel. They won't let you on the plane because you need a form of identity to get into the country."
"Ugh so many rules." She said, wrinkling her nose.
"Tell me about it." Stone glanced at her watch. "Couple more minutes then we should head out.""Okay. And actually, I'm pretty full so I will just take my frosty to go."
"Fair enough." He said rising. He threw their trash away, then they headed out to the car.
"Do you have to use the bathroom?"
"No. I'm good."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes I am."
"Okay." Stone started the engine and turned up the music. Then away they went.
"I have a question."
"What's that?""If this isn't your car, why did you have your burner phone in here?"
"I put it in there after you fell asleep. And since I'm driving this, I'm calling it my car."
"But it's not your car. It's STOLen."
"Tomato Tamato."
"Fine fine!." She said, raising her hands.
"Maybe you could try to drive this car?""Um no. too fast."
"It is a bit smaller though."
"Yeah. I don't know, it is smaller I guess. Maybe once we get out of all this traffic." She said waving her hand around at the darkening sky."Sure. I'll find a good spot." He said, flashing her a smile. They were quiet for some time as Stone watched the traffic and Taylor watched the scenery.
"You know what I like to do when stressed or bored?""No. What?"
"I like to draw. Do you have any papers?"
"I don't know if there are any in this car. You could see if there are napkins or something in the back.""Mmkay." She undid her seat belt and climbed into the back. She rummaged around the messy back seat and came across a wad of napkins. It would have to do for now. As she rummaged, she was unaware that Stone had sighted a car, a car three lengths back that had been following them since leaving Wendy's. He didn't know if it was a coincidence but knew he needed to leave them in the dust soon. Taylor grabbed the wad and took her seat again. She clipped her seatbelt back in and the annoying noise stopped.
