London
Sept. 17The day went by like every other day. Nora woke up, did her morning routine, got to work early, talked to clients and did a few phone calls and got out at lunch time with a coworker Louis.
Louis was a nice guy. They met because they both started at the law firm at the same time. He had blond hair and blue eyes and was pretty much the definition of baby face, even though he was thirty years old. He had a dazzling personality, was incredibly funny and most definitely Nora's favorite coworker.
The two of them went to subway and ordered two sandwiches. Together, they discussed their latest clients and some office gossip. Louis had the talent of being invisible sometimes - people didn't notice him around, so he heard all the juicy details. He knew about everyone's private life and no one even knew.
Nora always enjoyed Lunch with Louis. It was her time to take a break and get her head free. It was a time to laugh about silly things and for a short period of time, forget about the stress and responsibilities of their jobs.
Nora had just laughed about a joke that Louis had made when she saw a dark silhouette to her right. She slightly turned her head and watched the man who sat down at the other end of the restaurant. Nora didn't know him but he clearly watched her. He wore a blue tracksuit and only had a soda cup in front of him, no food.
Of course, the man could just be a random creep. But Nora had a weird feeling about him. She heard Louis talking but didn't actually understand any of the words that he was saying. She was too focused on the man who was still looking at her. They didn't break eye contact. Nora was determined to intimidate him.
The guy had a very weird look about him. A scar on his left cheek. Beard not trimmed. His eyes looked sort of... empty. Her heart was beating so strong she thought that the man might hear it. But Nora kept the eye contact with a serious face, trying not to let the fear creep up into her face expressions.
After a few seconds he slowly got up and strolled through the restaurant. Then he left through the front door.
„Did you even listen to me?"
Nora abruptly turned her head back to her coworker and saw his confused face.
„Oh sorry, Louis, I was caught up in a thought. What did you say?"
They continued their conversation, finished up their sandwiches and walked back to the law firm. But every time that Nora blinked she saw the face of the guy who watched her. She saw the scar. She saw the emotionless eyes. The madness.
As she finished up answering some e-mails towards the end of her work day, she thought about Sully. Nora didn't go to their meeting. Or didn't take his invitation. Or whatever that was. Whatever he wanted her to do, she didn't do. And she wouldn't do that under any circumstances in the future.
Nora was so sick and tired of working an honest job and still being dragged into this mess. Just because she was born into this life, doesn't mean she had to partake in any of this. She chose to be better a long time ago.
And that won't change.
Especially not for some Sully idiot.
