London
Nov. 17th

The next few days once again flew by. Nora knew that her superiors would make a decision sooner or later. From January next year, the promotion was to take effect, so she knew she would have to hear from them soon. She gave it her best every day. She felt like she was getting ahead of herself and getting better at what she was doing.

It was early in the morning when she stepped out of the elevator into the office with Louis by her side. The two were giggling and talking about a new colleague who had been sitting in the open-plan office since last week, permanently occupying the kitchen.

Nora said goodbye to Louis as they walked before heading to their adjoining offices.

Nora closed the glass door behind her and as she turned around, her heart stopped for a moment.

All of her files, her folders, individual sheets of paper, pens, and data junk - everything was scattered wildly across her desk and all over the floor.

What?

Panic rose in her, her heart pumped wildly and she heard the blood rushing in her ears as she frantically tried to gather everything up.

What had happened here? Who was that?

She collected paper after paper, crawling around on the floor and stacking everything. Her hands shook as she kept looking out the glass front into the hallway that led past her office in a panic.

If her boss walked by, it would be the end of her career.
Confidential client data really needed to be locked away in a drawer, safely tucked away so no one could misuse it. Especially in a law firm as excellent and prestigious as hers.

Nora was sure she had everything safely stowed away, and it certainly hadn't been a gust of wind that had caused this mess.

She glanced at her filing cabinet, which was normally securely locked, only she had the key.
As she stood up and walked toward it she saw that it had been brutally pried open.

She looked inside.
Her heart stopped and blood rushed to her face.

A note.

Tell Sullivan his lawyer bitch is next

It was like time stood still for a moment.
Her brain shut down.
She just stared at the words, the messily written letters on the white piece of paper lying on the bottom of the drawer.

Fuck.

Then she tore herself away, woke up from her panic and quickly photographed the note. Then everything had to happen very quickly.

She looked around to see if anyone had seen her, but fortunately almost no one was there yet, Louis and she had come extra early.

So she continued to crawl across the floor, collected everything and put it neatly back exactly where it must have been before. Then Nora straightened her clothes, pulled her skirt straight, lifted her chin and took the note out of the drawer. Forcing herself not to look at it, she crumpled it up and put it in her purse before lifting her chin and leaving her office.

There was still almost no one in her hallway.

She took the elevator and headed toward the roof top. The sight of herself in the mirror made her nervous. She wasn't her old self anymore. She never wanted to be a part of any of this, but now she had received a fuckingdeath threat.

Nora looked herself up and down, no emotion on her face, wondering if she would ever recognize herself again. If anything would ever be the same after this. Because she knew what she would do now. Something that was against everything she stood for. Something she would never have done before, under any circumstances.
