Chapter 20

Maddie's POV:

"I'm okay Amber, are you done your spaghetti?" I ask her, cupping her cheek.

"Yup! Daddy fed me!" She squealed.

The fact of Amber being so happy about her own father made me happy, but it also made me feel like I was getting out of her heart.

"Good. It's medicine time." I told her, picking up the medication.

"No mommy! I don't want to eat it." She relied fast, as if I was asking her to eat a bug.

"Please, Amber, don't be ridiculous. Eat it." I insisted, but she wouldn't budge.

"No! I won't eat it!" She yelled.

"Amber! Are you eating it or should I--" I stood up but got cut off by Luke.

"What's wrong?" He came over to us, glaring at me.

"Amber won't take her medication." I look away from him, avoiding his eyes.

He looks down at the medicine in my hand, gently taking it from me, and set it on the table.

"Amber. You know that your medicine is important. Why won't you eat it?" He asks her, gentle and father-like.

"It doesn't taste good!" She yelled again.

"Amber, quiet. Now." I glare at Amber.

"Daddy I don't want to take it!" She says, making a crying face.

"Okay, if you take it I'll bring you lots of chocolates and candies tomorrow, and then I'll take you to the park. I'll also bring you dolls." He grins at her, and of course, the four year old agrees.

"Okay, okay! I'll take it!" She says, and my eyebrows go up in a split second.

After Amber took her medicine, it was time for bed.

"Alright, let's get you washed up and then daddy can read you a book." I told Amber, taking her into the bathroom.

"Daddy is going to read me a book!" She squealed, happy for the first time her dad was actually reading her a book.

"Yup! And we're going to read 'Snow White' today." He smiled, his dimples showing.

Amber ran into the bathroom and I followed behind her.

I got her brushed up and in her night gown and then she went to Luke, sitting right beside him, as I went to bed.

Luke's POV:

Amber at this point is sleeping.

Maddie is also at this point, sleeping.

Her beautiful face while sleeping makes me want to place my lips on hers, and tell her that everything between us will be fine.

But it won't.

And I guarantee you that.

At some point, mum is going to find out, and I don't know what she will do.

I gently take Amber and set her on the bed that Maddie is sleeping on, and then I go to to my room.

But right before I leave, Amber grabs my finger.

"Daddy," she whispers. "Can you please sleep with me?" She asks me.

I can't say no.

But I have to say no.

I'm not sleeping with Maddie.

But she's my daughter.

"Amber," I start, sighing.

"Please daddy?" I couldn't say no.

"Fine." I get on the bed and lay down right beside her.

Soon my vision started to get darker, and in seconds I drifted off to sleep.

Maddie's POV:

The sun shined right on my face, causing me to wake up.

But when I looked at Amber, I noticed Luke was sleeping on the same bed.

And our hands were touching.

No.

I'm not letting this happen.

I quickly slide my hand back, causing him to wake up.

I quickly got up, and walked to the bathroom.

After I did my business, I found Amber awake and at the door, and I once again, went to the bathroom and helped her with her business.

"Dad?" Amber quickly ran across the house in search of Luke.

"Dad went to work, Amber." I told her, but she didn't listen.

"Daddy left us!" She cried.

No he didn't, here, let me call him.

I dialed Luke's number.

"Hello?" I heard his voice on the other end.

"Can you please tell Amber that you went to work, not run away?"

He chuckles on the other end, while I passed the phone to Amber.

"Dad! Where are you! Don't leave us please!" She cried, again.

"Amber! I'm not leaving you! Ever! I'm at work and I'll be home soon. Then, we can go out for dinner. Sound good?" He asks, and Amber grins.

"Yay! Can mommy go?" She asks, and I look from the ground to her.

"Yes, mommy can go too." Amber smiles.

"Mommy get me ready!" She put the phone in my hands and went to our room.

"What time are you coming?" I ask him, straight.

"Around four. Be ready." He says, and I hang up.

Luke's POV:

"Hey, Luke? Where are you going so early?" Lexi chimes in, walking out with me.

"I have some things to do, so I'm leaving early today."

"Oh, how about we go out for dinner today?"

"Sorry Lex, I'm kinda busy."

"Oh, okay. See you around then." She smiles, and I walk off to my car.

"Dad's home!" I yell, and seconds later Amber walks towards me.

"Wow, my little princess looks beautiful today!" I tell her, and she smiles.

"This is mommy's favorite outfit of me."

Maddie's POV:

Luke half smiles, and then says, "cool." And walks over to see me coming right in front of him.

We both jump at the action, and seconds later I break the silence and the eye contact.

"Where's Amber?" I say, looking away.

"She's uh, by the front door." He looks and points to the direction, while I walk towards it.

"Amber, are you ready?" I ask her.

"Yes!" She jumps.

"Are you ready?" I ask Luke.

"Oh umm, yeah. Let's go."

We get into the car, and drive off to a restaurant, the one Luke first brought me in when we got married.

"What would you like to--" Luke started to ask Amber, but was suddenly cut off by someone unexpected.

"Hi Luke." Lexi walks over to us.
