Chapter QUINCE

Maddie's POV:

I'm in the ultrasound room, and the woman is putting jelly stuff on my stomach.

"So, does it hurt?" The nurse asks.

"No." I reply.

"Alright. Your done." She says, motioning for me to stand up.

"Are you her mother?" She looks at Liz, but points to me.

"No, I'm her mother-in-law, what are the results?"

"Congratulations! You're pregnant!" The nurse hands me the files, and starts to write a bunch of notes.

"Oh my goodness." Liz puts a hand over her mouth, "I cannot believe this."

"I want you to take these medicines everyday starting tomorrow. Don't miss a single day, or else the baby is not going to be healthy."

"Oh nurse, she doesn't eat at all. Tell her to eat for me."

"Oh that is unacceptable. You need to eat in order for this child to grow!"

"Yes, nurse." I look down.

"Good girl. Your time is up, see you next month!" She hands me the slip of the other medicines and we head off.

"Did you tell Luke yet?" Liz asks, while we get into the car.

"No, and I don't want you to tell him right now. I want to give him a surprise when he comes back." I tell her, then smile at her.

"Okay dear, whatever you want." She smiles back.

Lexi's POV:

"Hello?" I say on my phone.

"Oh, hey, Lexi. What's up?" I hear Luke in the other end of the phone.

"Oh you know, the usual. Just walking into the office for like, two days, and not seeing you really concerns me. Why did you go without me?" I practically yell at him through the phone.

"They said it was an emergency and that I had to go."

"So you can't take your best friend with you on your trip, is that what your friends are saying about me?"

"What--no! I didn't even take Maddie with me! Why are you making this such a big deal?"

"Ugh, whatever. When are you coming back?"

"The day after tomorrow, afternoon."

Wait, the prom is the day after tomorrow.

"So, who you asking to prom?" I shyly say.

"Uh, Maddie, of course, who else?" He chuckles.

I frown.

"What do you mean--never mind." I hang up.

I can't believe he's choosing Maddie over me.

"Hey, Lex."

"Drake? What the hell are you doing here?"

"I brought you some flowers, so I could tell you I'm sorry.

Eh, might as well use him.

"Aww, thank you so much Drake. I needed a friend right now anyways." I make a sad face, then fold my arms together.

"Why, what's wrong Lex?" He says, putting a hand on my back as I flinch to the touch of it.

"Luke left for Australia without me." I say, tears dropping through my eyes.

"We can go to Australia any time you want." He grins.

"Well, there's no use of going. So, don't you have to go somewhere?"

"Oh right, I was just about to head up to her house."

This game is going to be pretty interesting.

I cannot wait to have Luke back to me. All by myself.

Ever since I got here,

I can't stop thinking about her,

She's thinking about me,

I know it.

But what if she's not?

What if she's with someone else,

Enjoying her life?

Without me?

But that's not true.

Not after everything we've been through.

"But mum, I want to go to prom." I tell Liz, sitting on my bed.

"Who said you couldn't go? Just take care of yourself." She smiles, putting a hand on my shoulder.

"Luke is going to come that day." I sigh.

"That's great!" She says.

"I know."

"What's wrong dear?"

"I'm not sure if I'm ready for this."

"It's alright. I don't think Luke will be either, but were here for you."

"Thanks mum."

*Le day of the Prom*

I pick out a nice dress, a long red dress that Luke said he liked on me.

I do my makeup, curl my hair, and drive to school.

I can't wait to see him.

I missed him.

I make my way inside,

And a pressure pushed me against the wall,

And someone attaches their lips to mine.

"What the-- fuck?" I say between the kisses.

The light is so dim I cannot even see the person, not until he speaks.

"Shh baby. I'm here for you." He says, leaving hickeys on my neck.

"Drake? Drake stop. Stop Drake--" I try to stop him but I hear a voice.

A voice that I haven't heard for three days.

"Maddie?" Luke asks, walking into the room.
