"Oh, there you are." Loana said with a cheerful chuckle as you entered the kitchen.

You hurriedly walked up to her as you fixed your attire. "Oh, I apologize for being la-"

She shook her head with a smile, gesturing with her hand. "Oh, do not worry. The lady informed me." You could only wander what the lady might have told Loana regarding to your absence this morning, but your curiosity was cut short when Loana spoke again. "Well, now that you are here, could you assist me in tonight's dinner?" She pointed to the counter as she spoke. "You can start cutting those vegetables up while I prepare the sauce."

You nodded as you adjusted your apron around your waist. "Alright, may I ask what this dish is called?" You asked with curiosity, gazing over the stove that was filled with all kind of steaming dishes.

Loana raised an eyebrow while wiping her hands dry with a towel. "You don't know any Romanian dishes?"

You shrugged your shoulders as you approached her at the dark counter. "Well, I've been living in the village with my aunt for as long as I can remember. But I never got to learn Romanian, even though my aunt spoke Romanian fluently, we always communicated in English. I have no idea where I am originally from or my parents."

Loana glanced at you as she washed the fresh green veggies in the sink. "Hm, did your aunt never tell you where you are from?" She questioned.

You shook your head, leaning against the table, as you gazed at her. "Not really. She never told me much about my parents or how I ended up with her in this village."

While she spoke, she placed the rinsed cabbages on the cutting board. "It must be confusing not knowing your past, I can't imagine it. Have you considered visiting your aunt on vacation days?" Loana suggested with a warm smile.

You lowered your gaze to the vegetables as you spoke of her passing, a touch of grief in your voice as you chopped the cabbage. "Oh, well, she actually passed away pretty recently, just one month before I got here."

Loana's attention shifted to yours as she sympathized. "I'm sorry to hear that, dear. Why don't you tell me about her, hm?" She suggested, brighten your mood.

"My aunt's name was Maria, she had always had soft brown short hair. I remember liking brushing my hands through her hair whenever she lay alongside me. She had these lovely, warm green eyes that always radiated joy. I vividly remember her sweet scent when she wore her favorite white blouse." A smile spread across your lips as you remembered her vividly. "When I was younger, she frequently taught me how to play the piano, and I never went to school in the village, instead, she taught me the most important things in life. Like how to survive or how to prepare meals in the best way. Her aura was so warm and genuine, and her broad smile was always the brightest aspect of Maria." You sighed softly as you thought about her last few months while you placed the cut up cabbages in a bowl. "But then she discovered she was seriously ill and required some medications. Her treatment was prohibitively expensive, and she died before she could find an alternative. She actually felt like a mother to me, I remember questioning if maybe she wasn't my real mother, but she always showed me old photographs of my parents, and while I never met them, they appeared to be such kind-hearted people." You smiled again, sharing the sweet memories you had kept.
