The moonlight shone down on the rooftop, giving the pavement a soft glow.
Sitting on the ground I sketched out a drawing I had in mind for a while now.

A soft crunching sounded on the pavement, making me look up from the paper.
"Ehm..." I spoke up as I saw someone on the same rooftop, a while off, "Who are you, exactly?" I didn't recognise them, but considering they had their back on me that was to be expected.

The figure turned to me, probably only then having noticed me.
I noticed they were wearing a hood and one of those COVID masks, I wondered why. It didn't make it easier to figure out what they were doing here. My thoughts told me this might mean trouble, at this hour, I mean.

"Why do you care?" A soft mumble sounded, "It's not like it matters." The distance made it hard to hear clearly.

"Well I mean," I held up my sketchbook, "You can be in my drawing if you want, otherwise, could you move over about two metres?" Realising it might sound mean I added, "Don't step of the roof, I mean. But it's whatever you want, really." How did that sound? Awful, that's how it sounded.

The figure sighed and for a moment without answering, looked out over the city, a longing look in his eyes.
"Can I see the drawing?" The soft voice spoke up.

Usually I wouldn't have said yes, but this was a stranger. What could it hurt?
"Sure, it's just a sketch tho." I warned him, hoping they'd not start judging.

The person slowly walked over to me. It might have been my imagination, but I think I saw them limping slightly.

The figure dropped himself next to me, a tired movement, and proceeded to look at the sketch.
"It looks nice." Came from my right, where they sat.

I smiled at the complement and grabbed a new pencil, a blue one, to start drawing where I wanted the high lights. "It's part of a series of drawings," I explained to the person, "I wanted to capture the best out of each perspective from this exact spot." I then grabbed a darker blue from the tray and continued drawing. "Quite the curious thing, I'd say."
The figure watched, but I was to engrossed in the drawing to pay it much mind. The sounds of the city below filled the silence.

A long while went by before I noticed the figure hadn't left yet.
"If I may ask..." I spoke up softly as to not startle them, "What were you doing up here? Kind of an odd place to just hang out."

A small silence followed, I got nervous, did I offend the person?
Then they answered, "I don't know, guess I just wanted to see the city from a different perspective."

Nodding I thought about that line, "Can I use that as a title for the art series?" It fitted actually quite nicely, especially since I was sketching for the most part, but also painting some and even using online methods to bring out the best of the picture.

"Why not." The figure didn't really seem to care.
Moving on to draw the sky I used different colours, experimenting for the most part.
"Why are you using red for the sky?" The figure asked.

"For the glow of the city, I want to chapter some of the light pollution in this one." I mumbled in reply, not pausing the drawing.

"Why? Isn't a sky full of stars prettier?" The figure asked, "It sounds sad."

"I think it looks pretty in a way, I'll try to put some emphasis on it in the drawing, maybe you'll see what I mean."

"Oh."

The night went on, and then I finished the sketch with a sigh.
"Guess I'll head inside, maybe I'll see you around?" I asked.

The figure looked away, "Most likely not." Then they looked at me, "But if I see you, I'd like to see the whole series."

I nodded and stood up. "I hope I can show you." I said before heading to the stairs.
Cute interaction, I thought to myself.
At that time, I did not know what lay ahead. If I did, I would've turned around rather shocked, sad maybe.
But hey, I can't spoil what's ahead.

This story is a love story. A romance, in fancy words.
I wanted to write this, and so I did. I'm editing it as I speak— as I write, in better words.
So... yeah, I hope you won't cry because it's so bad. Lastly I wish to mention that waffles are very good food.

Eat waffle,
