Chapter 10

Madden's POV

 I watched as Delilah hopped out of my car as fast as she possibly could. It was tearing me apart inside that I knew all she wanted to be was friends for now, but I couldn't push her. I'd probably lose her for good if I did that. Besides, she seems pretty eager to stay away from me; I guess she's not interested in being around me right now. That was like a dagger to the heart. I wanted to spend every second with Delilah. I sometimes wish she were a werewolf so she could understand. But then it'd be too easy. I like Delilah, she's complicated. She's different.  I should have told her she was my mate.  I don't know what I was thinking!  I mean, I know she's not exactly ready yet, but it'd be better just to have her know, right? 

"Hey my Bro!  My 'Brotha from anotha motha'." Isaac walked up to me as I entered the school. I gave him an odd look. Talk about creepy. He never calls me by nicknames really. He's always called me Alpha, unless humans are present, then he just calls me Man, or Madden. But Bro? Never. I've known Isaac since we were little pups. I guess I don't mind it though, it's just a little 'out of the blue' to me.

"Hey, 'Bro'..." I opened my locker.

"What's up Dude?" I turned back to Isaac. What the heck.

"Dude? Dude, you all right?" I confusedly asked him.

"What do you mean, Man?" Again he replied with the pet name. He's getting on my nerves. He calls me 'Man' sometimes, and that's fine with me, but the other two he's never really ventured to call me.

"What's with the names? Bro, Dude? You've never called me that before." I shut my locker, a little harder than necessary. I was okay with maybe one pet name every now and then, but not every sentence.

"S-sure I do. You just never noticed," Isaac nervously looked away and waved to a girl down the hall as if to draw the attention away from himself.

"Loosen up Isaac, it's cool," I slapped him on the back in a friendly way, but he seemed taken by surprise. He practically fell to the ground and my eyes widened as I tried to help him back up. "Sorry Man, you okay?" After he was steadied I studied his face. He looked really nervous for some reason, I just couldn't place a finger on it.

"Yeah, yeah I'm good, I'm cool. I'm great. I have to leave now. Class time. See ya Bro," Isaac jogged - well, more like ran down the hall. I couldn't help but feel like he wanted to be away from me. Like everyone else. What has gotten into people around here? Not one single person has talked to me today. Not even glanced my way! After all, I am their future Alpha, you'd think they'd show some respect... I don't get it. I can understand the humans, but my pack had basically ignored me all day. They would bow their heads slightly, out of respect, but that's it. Usually when I walk into school, I'm bombarded with a ton of people surrounding me. I don't mind the attention, but I don't love and crave it either, like some people do. I also understand that my pack wants to be around their Alpha, so I don't mind so much.

I shook my head and shrugged it off. Probably just one of those days. I'd been so caught up in my thoughts, I hadn't even heard the bell ring. Ah crap, Teach's gonna be mad. It's my way of spreading joy to my teachers. They love it.

Finally, school was over. I had wanted to be near Delilah all day, but she seemed to be avoiding me. I let her have her space, she needed it. She sat with Caitlin, Kristin, and Sami at lunch. None of them even glanced my way. I just sat with a few of the guys, even though it was killing me inside that Delilah didn't want to be near me. It felt like someone had their fist wrapped around my heart, and they kept slowly, but surely, squeezing it tighter by the second. It was pure agony, but my wolf was keeping me strong inside and managed to keep my feelings inside.
