As Akshay completely shifted his attention to his family, I couldn't help but notice how different he seemed. He wasn't the same intense, brooding guy I was used to. While memories of our previous conversation were still fresh in my mind, the man before me appeared so different.

There was a surprising lightness in his presence, as if he had temporarily put down the burdens and pressures that defined his usual self. Though he did not smile, the expression on his face was kind. I watched him spend his entire attention on his loved ones while they engaged in some conversation.

Love and affection replaced the dark intensity that terrified in his eyes.

It captured me, drawing me in; it showed a complex personality that could adjust to different environments in different settings. The complexity of his character made me want to dig deeper, to strip away the many layers that had hidden his true self.

As I walked towards the lavish dinner table, full of a tempting choice of dishes, the Oberoi family kindly directed me to my seat.

Mrs. Neelam Oberoi, with a warm smile, asked me, "Are you a vegetarian or non-vegetarian?"

"I'm a non-vegetarian." The family nodded and exchanged knowing glances.

They immediately instructed the staff to bring out mouthwatering food options like fish, chicken, biryani, and other delicious dishes. The table quickly brims with starters and mini dishes, covering every corner. The starters and mini dishes quickly filled the table, covering every corner.

Before he could dive into the meal, Mr. Manish Oberoi raised his hand with the glass of wine and said, "We're so grateful to have you here, Meera. Please relax and enjoy your dinner."

Their heartfelt words wiped me away.

"Thank you; I am glad to enjoy this dinner with you."

I noticed a minor discomfort in Akshay's eyes—something very triggering that I didn't quite understand or appreciate, if I say so. It was as if my presence at the table caused a change in him.

It was totally in contrast with the warmth plus acceptance his family provides..

What's wrong with him?

While we were enjoying the dinner, Akshay's eyes occasionally switched towards me; his eyes showed uncertainly of unkind behaviour, or, I would say, guardedness. It was clear that my presence in his family was like an unwelcome intrusion, destroying the walls he had carefully built for so long.

Ignoring the undercurrent of tension, I did my best to say composed and gracious. That was what my parents taught me.

I was having a light conversation with the other family members, making myself more comfortable. Yet, every stolen glance from Akshay only heightened my fascination and fuelled my thirst to understand the reasons behind the sudden shift in his behaviour.

I couldn't shake the feeling of being an outsider in a place where I didn't quite feel like i belong. Akshay's distance from me became a challenge I wanted to win. With each passing moment, my will to discover the truth about him grew stronger.

The youngest members of the family, Vihaan and Kriti, add to the innocence that was missing. It felt like the place belonged to an unharmed species—so infectious, giving rise to a joy and lightness that allowed me to let go of Akshay's suspicious eyes.

I let myself enjoy the delicious food.

Mrs. Neelam Oberoi approached me with a tender hug.

She held my hand and said with heartfelt warmth, "Sweetheart, I can't even begin to tell you how grateful I am that you came tonight. You've brought so much happiness, and it really feels like you're one of us. Our home is your home now—consider yourself part of the family.""

As we stood there, Mr. Manish Oberoi, standing beside his wife, continued the conversation. With a gentle smile, he added, "Yes, she is right. We cannot express enough how grateful we are to have you here tonight. You truly are a blessing in our lives."

And I couldn't help but feel a bit humbled by their words, realizing how much they really meant it. Mia excitedly approached me and said, "Can you stay with us tonight?" I have so much to say. I've always wanted a sister, and I feel like I've found one in you,"

With a tinge of regret, I said, "I really have to get back to work." Mia's face fell for a split second, but before I knew it, she pulled me into a tight hug and promised we'd

With a playful, toothy grin, Mia added, "Oh, and Akshay has this amazing club. We should go there sometime. It's a fantastic place." As Akshay's name slipped from Mia's lips, a heavy, thick emotion shot into my veins. Memories of our previous interaction drove me back.

It reminded me of complex feelings lurking deep within me. At that moment, time stayed still, and I couldn't deny his pull on me. Collecting myself, I responded with my steady voice. "Okay, Mia, we will definitely meet again. I would love to spend more time with you." I deliberately ignored the clubbing thing.

Throughout our conversation, I could feel Akshay's intense gaze fixed upon us, his presence palpable even in the silence. It was clear that he didn't appreciate the growing bond between Mia and me.

Even with his disapproval, I accepted Mia's friendship offer as she was sweet, loveable, and kind. I couldn't ignore the love the family showed.

Except for that one person.
