L's heart pounded in his chest as he searched the base, his mind racing. The piece of the God Note was missing. The cornerstone of their plan was gone, and L had a sinking feeling about who was responsible.

As L and Near made their way to the trap location, L's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. Without the God Note piece, their plan was useless. They had walked into a trap of their own making, and they were the prey.

Suddenly, out of the shadows, Light appeared, a shotgun in his hands, an evil grin on his face. "L," Light called out, his voice echoing through the empty street, "I've been waiting for you."

L froze, his gaze meeting Light's. He could see the triumph in Light's eyes, the certainty of victory. He was trapped, and he knew it.

But before Light could fire, Near jumped in front of L, shielding him. "Go, L!" Near shouted, his eyes never leaving Light. "I'll hold him off!"

L hesitated, his gaze locked with Near's. But he knew there was no other choice. He nodded, turning to leave. But before he did, he looked at Light, a determined look in his eyes. "This isn't over, Kira," L said, his voice filled with resolve. "We will stop you."

With that, L vanished into the night, leaving Near to face Kira alone.

Standing alone in front of Kira, Near was unfazed. His eyes met Light's, a sense of defiance in them. "Kira," he began, his voice steady, "you've lost your touch. This was your best plan?"

Light's smirk didn't falter, but his eyes held a flicker of annoyance. Near's mockery wasn't lost on him. "You're one to talk, Near," Light retorted, his grip tightening on the shotgun. "I don't see L here, do you?"

Before Near could respond, a third voice cut through the tense atmosphere. "Now, now, let's not get too ahead of ourselves," said Mello, stepping out from the shadows. His appearance caused a ripple of surprise to cross Near's face.

"Mello," Near muttered, his eyes wide

"Mello," Near muttered, his eyes wide. "What are you doing here?"

Mello chuckled, crossing his arms. "Isn't it obvious? I'm here to join the winning team."

Near's eyes narrowed. "You're siding with Kira?"

Mello shrugged. "Why not? After all, he's done more for this world than we ever did. Maybe he can be God. Maybe I can be, too."

Near stared at Mello, a mixture of disbelief and betrayal in his eyes. But Mello didn't flinch, his gaze steady on Near. The tension was palpable, as three of the world's greatest minds found themselves at odds, with the balance of power hanging in the balance. The game was far from over, and the stakes had never been higher.

Mello's voice echoed in the empty street, a manic energy to his words. "Imagine it, Near. A world where we're all gods. Where we control life and death. It's what we've always wanted, isn't it?"

Near didn't respond, his eyes watching Mello warily. He could see the change in Mello, the way his eyes shone with a newfound purpose. He was no longer the Mello Near knew.

Mello's lips curled into a cruel smile. "And it's all thanks to Kira. He's shown us the way. He's shown us what we could be."

Light watched Mello, his expression unreadable. Mello had certainly changed. He was more driven, more ambitious. And he was siding with Kira.

"Mello," Light began, his voice calm, "are you saying you want to join me?"

Mello's smile widened. "Yes, Kira. I want to be a part of this new world you're creating. And to prove my loyalty, I'll take care of Near for you."

The air grew tense as Mello's words hung in the air. Near's gaze flickered between Mello and Light, his mind racing. He was cornered, with his former friend turned enemy and Kira standing against him. But even in the face of danger, Near was calm. He was ready to face whatever came next.

As Mello stepped forward, Near squared his shoulders, his gaze never wavering. Despite the odds, he showed no fear. He had known this could happen. He had always known Mello was capable of this.

"Mello," Near began, his voice steady, "you were always the more ambitious one. Always chasing after something...even if it meant siding with Kira."

Mello paused, his eyes meeting Near's. "And you were always the cautious one, Near," Mello retorted. "Always playing it safe. But sometimes, you have to take risks to get what you want."

Near nodded, a faint smile on his face. "That's true. But some risks aren't worth taking, Mello."

Mello's face hardened, his hand reaching for his gun. "We'll see about that, Near."

The air was electric as Mello raised his gun, his gaze locked on Near. Near didn't flinch, his eyes meeting Mello's. This was the end of their rivalry, the final standoff between two former friends.

As Mello's finger tightened on the trigger, Near's words echoed in the silence, a final message to his former friend. "Remember, Mello," Near said, his voice calm, "every action has a consequence."

And then, the silence was shattered by the sound of a gunshot, marking the end of a chapter in their lives, a final act in their rivalry. One thing was certain: nothing would ever be the same again.

L barely had time to register the sight in front of him as he returned to the base. The once-secret base was ablaze, the flames reaching towards the sky, devouring everything in their path. L could only stare in disbelief as the place that had once been his sanctuary was reduced to ashes.

In the midst of the chaos, L's phone buzzed, a news notification flashing on the screen. Near was dead. The police were searching for him. L's heart pounded in his chest as he read the news, his mind racing.

Mello and Kira had set him up. They had blown up his base, killed his allies, and now they were framing him for Near's death. L was now a fugitive, a suspect in a murder he didn't commit.

With nowhere else to go, L was forced into hiding. He had to lay low, to disappear from the public eye. He needed time to plan, to figure out his next move. But as he watched his base burn, L knew one thing for sure: He would not let Mello and Kira win. He would bring them to justice, no matter what it took.

As the flames of the burning base reflected in his eyes, L made a vow. He would not rest until he had avenged his fallen allies and brought Kira to justice. The game was far from over, and L was ready to fight till the end.
