"I want to see him." I said in a firm tone.
"Are you sure? I don't want you to be scared of him." Harald looked worried.
"I... I won't be scared. He is my brother." I lost some confidence when Harald told me that. How bad is Logan? Is he the same person I last saw?
Will he even remember me?
Harald let out a frustrated sigh. "Okay."
We both reached the house as I got more and more nervous the closer we got to wherever Logan was.I followed Harald into the basement as we reached the door I stood at before.
"I think you should open it." Harald stepped aside.
"Are you sure? I mean-" He cut me off
"He is your brother after all."
I gave him a small nod.
The door creaked as I opened it. It was dark and I could barely see anything.
"You ready?" Harald made sure that I wanted to do this. And I wanted to.
"Yeah." I said.
I slowly crept inside, my foot hitting the ground with a hollow sound. I could smell the rotting flesh of the room. The stench of death.
"Stop!" a voice screamed.
"Logan?" I asked, but the name came out as a question.
"Stop!" the voice screamed. "Stay back!"
"He is still kind of sensitive to being around people. He is showing some signs of abuse so please refrain from reaching out to him." Harald said while walking over to lighten the room a little. "I'm sorry that it can't be bright in here, his eyes are sensitive."
I could see a figure now. In the corner of the room, it seemed to be a shadow. It looked like it had been horribly burned. I could see the bone underneath his skin.
"Please," the shadow cried.
"Oh God..." I gasped and covered my mouth with my hand.
"Oliver? Is that you?" A raspy voice called out.
"Yes, yes it's me." I stood in disbelief. He didn't sound the same but I knew it was him. I need to see him.
"Oh, Oliver. Don't look at me." He cried.
"It's okay Logan, I'm not scared." I assured him.
I stepped towards him, trying to get a better view.
"He is honestly amazing. It bewitched me when I found him like this. I almost felt euphoric. That's something I haven't felt in a long time." Harald's voice echoed. Harald turned the lights up more, lighting up the room to where I can see Logan perfectly. He didn't look the same. Definitely not the same as before.
Harald's footsteps echoed behind me as his body appeared in my peripheral view. He stood with his hands behind his back. "He's one of the first that's infected but still is human. I guess you could say that he is special." Harald scoffed in a nice way.
Logan's face was stretched into a large, painful smile. It didn't bring peace but knowing that he was still human gave me some closure. His skin was pale, very pale. He had burn scars across his skin. His bones were sticking out horribly. His hair was paper thin. Everytime he would talk, his mouth wouldn't move, it was stiff.
"Oliver, please don't be scared of me." Logan started to sob.
"Hey, it's okay Logan. I'm here." I walked up to him and laid a hand on him.
