Unexpected Surprise

DAYS and months went on. . . Six months felt like a decade. Maraming nangyari sa nakalipas na anim na buwan. Sa loob ng anim na buwan ay nagpakalunod ako sa trabaho. Marami akong kaso na na-handle. From broken bones, stab, gunshot wounds, head laceration, and more major cases.

Reeve did not say when the exact month of his return, but I did some research, and the average military deployment is typically between six and 12 months long.

Tahimik ang bahay nang umuwi ako. Celine went home to her province because her mother was rushed to the hospital. Sina Beau at Scout ay wala rin. Luhen took them at bukas pa lang sila ihahatid pabalik.

I still remember how Celine asked for my permission to let her go because her mother needed her.

"Ma'am, pasensya na po kung maiiwan ko po kayo mag-isa dito. Kailangan ko pong umuwi sa probinsya namin dahil sinugod po sa hospital si Nanay. Pasensya na po talaga, Ma'am. . ." she uttered between her sob.

I gave her a sympathetic smile. "You don't have to worry about me. I'll be fine here. Wait, I'll give you some money so you can buy medicine for your mom,"

Mabilis kong hinugot ang wallet sa aking bag at naglabas ng pera. I handed her five thousand pesos. Her eyes widen, and she immediately shakes her head.

"Huwag na po, Ma'am! Kakasahod ko lang po nang isang araw,"

"Ano ka ba! Just think of this as a bonus," I uttered and held her hand, cramming the money into her hand.

She sobbed. "Salamat po talaga, Ma'am! The best po kayo!"

Right now, I was alone and it saddened me. I remember the time that Reeve will wait for me to go home. Hindi siya nagsasawang maghintay sa akin ng ilang oras para lang malaman kung nakauwi ako ng ligtas. He always even welcome me with warm greetings and a heartwarming smile.

Am I missing him?

Yes.

Since he left for France for his military duties, I always thinking about him. I miss how we communicate with each other often. Ngayon kasi ay hindi kami masyadong nakakapag-usap ni Reeve. We can only communicate in a specific time kung saan nasa loob sila ng military base nila. We communicate via email and video calls on Skype.

I can't describe how I felt when I first saw him wearing his camouflage uniform. I was lost for words, and my heart was beating so fast. He looked so damn good in his military uniform that I need to stopped myself from drooling!

May dalawang beses pa nga na may sumilip na kasamahan niya noong nagvivideo call kami. Nasa apat na kalalakihan ang nakilala ko at si Reeve ang may pinakamataas na rango. He proudly introduced me to them using their native language. Then, he translated what he just said for me to understand.

"I would like to introduce the love of my life. She's my wife. Isn't she beautiful? My wife is a Surgeon in the Philippines. She's not just great, but she's one of the best Surgeon in her country!" He announced proudly.

At that moment, I realized how lucky I am for marrying him.

I had the same routine for the whole week. I just came out of the operating room after the operation I did with the patient who had incorrect bone fractures. The surgical operation takes several hours before it ends.

Tinanggal ko ang surgical gloves at surgical gown at itinapon sa bin bago tinanggal ang face mask at dumiretso sa scrub sink para maglinis ng kamay hanggang braso. I must remove all the bacteria that I might have caught from the operation.
