First Morning Together

I ALWAYS drink water before I go to sleep at night, reasoned why I went outside my room to go to the kitchen to drink water but stopped in the hallway when I saw Reeve sitting on the floor, rubbing both Beau's and Scout's belly. I bit my lips and leaned on the door, smiling at Beau when he looked in my direction.

I bent my knees when he ran to me, wagging his tail. I caress his head and giggle when he licks my hand. I saw Reeve standing up, looking at me while walking towards me with Scout on his side. I can smell lathering, musk, brisk soap, and mint shampoo from him.

"I didn't know you're still awake, wife," His hand was on the inside of his pocket.

"I was about to get a glass of water in the kitchen," I answered, still caressing Beau's head.

"Oh," he murmured. "Shall we? Samahan na kita," he offered.

My brows creased. "Iinom ka rin?"

"No," He drawled. "Sasamahan lang kita."

My lips parted in disbelief. "Why? I can go to the kitchen alone."

"I know, wife." His eyes stare at mine as the corner of his lips lifts up, forming a soft grin. "I know how independent you're, but let me walk you to the kitchen." He gestured his hand like a guide.

Does he think his house is a museum or mall that I'll be lost? Foolish.

He went down the stairs first, and his dogs immediately followed him. I took a deep breath and started to walk, following him from behind. Napakunot noo ako nang makitang tumigil siya doon sa huling dalawang hanay ng hagdan, parang may hinihintay.

"Are you waiting for me?" I asked sheepingly.

"Yes," he didn't deny. "Let's go to the kitchen, and I'll make your milk."

"Water," I corrected him.

"Water then," he mimicked me, and I just rolled my eyes at him.

While walking to the kitchen, I decided to start a conversation with him. "Did you buy your dogs, or you adopted them?"

Pumasok kami sa kusina. I sit into one of the island stools and let Reeve opened the fridge to serve me a glass of water. He slid the glass in front of me and leaned on the table, softly staring at me.

"I both adopted them. I first saw Scout when I got deployed in Alaska. While I adopted Beau when I was in France." He explained and continued to tell the story of how he became a fur dad to his adorable dogs.

I could see the affection in his eyes whenever he talked about his dogs. He was like talking about his children. How sweet.

"I didn't expect you like dogs that much," I said, chuckling lightly.

The corner of his lips rose. "And why's that, wife?" he uttered like he was enjoying our exchange talk.

I chewed my lips, hesitating to respond. "Well,"

"Well?"

"Because of your hot, and cold personality..." I muttered.

His lips parted in aghast, and his forehead wrinkled before his lips broke into a low chuckle. Amusement danced in his amber eyes. "Thank you for being honest with me, wife."

I pressed my lips and stood up. I feel a little awkward now. "I-I'm going to sleep now,"

"Alright," he didn't argue with me, but I was shocked when he cornered me on the table, caging me through his strong arms.
