Guards Down

"DON'T forget your lunch and your snacks, wife." After having breakfast, Reeve quickly prepared my lunch box. "Don't forget to text me, okay?" Paalala niya na parang bata ang kausap.

I nod. "Thanks for the food. I'm going na," I flashed a small smile.

He held my wrist.  "Wait,"

I stopped from my track and turned at him. "Yes, Reeve?"

"You forgot this," My eyes widened, and my mind went blank when I felt his lips on my lips. "Take care, my wife." He smiled with his eyes.

He kissed me again, and I didn't do anything to stop him! Ugh!

Living with Zuriel Reeve Roschefort is both heaven and hell.

Heaven, because he always cooked food for me. He has two adorable dogs, namely Beau and Scout. He makes great coffee. He became my human alarm clock to wake me up every morning so I won't get late for work. He cares for me, and he always makes sure I am in a safe place.

I don't feel the need to pretend when I'm with him. Everyone knows me as the miss perfect who is always classy, kind-hearted, and elegant, but when I'm with him, I can show my other side that no one else can see.

Hell, because he always dominates me. He's bossy at palaging siya na lang ang nasusunod. He's also full of sarcasm, boldness and conceitedness.

I shook my head to get a grip. I got out of my car after I successfully parked the car in the hospital's parking lot. I felt my phone vibrates from my bag, so I took the phone out and checked who messaged me. Nurse Eva texted me.

"What happened?" Tanong ko nang dumaan ako sa nursing station.

"Nagkaroon po ng traffic collision with entrapment sa Commonwealth Avenue, dra. . ." sagot ng isa sa mga Nurse.

"Call all the doctors in the vicinity right now!" I announced to all nurses. "And prepare the OR right now!"

Several stretchers flooded the emergency room in an unceasing, back-to-back wave. I can see scattered blood on the head, nose, stomach of a few patients, broken arms, legs, noses, and everything related to vehicle collisions.

THE flatline of the monitor pierced into my skull as I stared down at my patient's closed eyes and pale skin. Shane, my eighteen years old patient, was driving her car, heading to her university, when she was T-bone between two drunk drivers.

"Time of death: 2:16 p.m." My voice suddenly sounded bizarre than my normal voice. This line always makes my throat hurt.

Life is really cruel and unfair.

One minute she was alive, fighting for her life, then the next, she was gone. She had a cardiac arrest while we were operating on her.

We can't save her. . . Including her unborn child.
