Bear and I woke up early this morning to train. Despite the sun barely peeking over the horizon, we knew that with everything going on, we couldn't afford to waste any time.

Jeremy groaned painfully as I flipped him onto his back. "Did we have to do this so early in the morning?"

I shot him a stern look. "Yes, bear with it. With everything starting, I'm not leaving anything to chance," I told him, trying to emphasize the importance of our training.

"Ugh, fine," Jeremy relented. "I'll go wash up. We'll be late for school."

After taking a quick shower and getting dressed, I decided to go with rainbow hair today, hoping the vibrant colors would help lift my spirits amidst all the chaos.

As I made my way downstairs, I saw Mom and Jenna already dressed up, ready for their day. They both turned to look at me, and Mom smiled warmly. "You look lovely, Cassandra."Hey, what the occasion?"

"Of course, we'll both be attending," Jenna said, nodding towards Miranda. "As your guardians, we want to make sure we're on top of everything and that you're doing well in school."

I sighed, relieved that it was just a routine check-in. "Whew, you guys had me worried there for a second," I said, trying to hide my lingering unease. "I'd better get going, don't want to be late!"

With that, I grabbed my backpack and headed out the door, leaving Miranda and Jenna behind. As I walked to school, I couldn't help but wonder if there was more to this conference than they were letting on, but I pushed the thought aside for now.

Mystic Falls High School.

Another day in the class of the most boring human ever. This guy is making me remember why I hate school.

I felt eyes on me and turned to see Stefan looking at me. I chuckled a bit because Libby was also making a face that said "I told you so."

"Are we bothering you, Mr. Salvatore? Ms. Gilbert?" Tanner asked, his voice laced with annoyance.

I flashed him a smile and replied, "Yes, you are."

Stefan, seemingly unfazed by Tanner's glare, held out a book to me. "Here, I didn't know which book you would like."

I looked at the cover and saw it was "Wuthering Heights." "Nice book," I said, "but I would have preferred 'Frankenstein' by Mary Shelley."

Stefan raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

I smiled and explained, "I prefer stories that make me question what it means to be human over a story about rejection."

Stefan couldn't help but laugh at my response. "You might be the first person I've met who isn't either wanting to be like them or have a love like them."
