I got up extra early today. Explaining most of the supernatural crap to a human is mostly tiring.

As I opened the door, my heart sank. Standing before me was the one person I least wanted to see—the source of so much pain and frustration. His face made me nauseous.

I yelled out to my family, "Mom, Jenna, Elena, Jeremy! The family disappointment is here!"

I yelled out to my family, "Mom, Jenna, Elena, Jeremy! The family disappointment is here!"

Without another word, I walked past him, knowing that if I stayed, I wouldn't be able to control my anger. I couldn't risk losing control—not with everything that was at stake.

I pulled a ring out of my pocket and handed it to Alaric. "Oh, and here," I said, offering him the updated Gilbert ring.

He looked at it curiously, turning it over in his hands. "What's this?"

"Let's just say it has the same power as the one on your finger, except it won't create an alter ego that will go on a killing spree. I'll be helping to ensure that doesn't happen. But in the meantime, I'll be taking the old one. You can wear the new one while you're in this town."

Just as he was about to respond, we heard students approaching the classroom.

"Looks like we'll have to continue this conversation another time," Alaric said, sliding the new ring onto his finger.

As the tremors shook the very foundations of Mystic Falls, the entire world felt the reverberations. While most people were clueless about the cause, some members of the supernatural community could sense the impending awakening of Chaos.

Mr. Saltzman, concerned, turned to check on Cassandra, only to find that she had vanished from the classroom.
