Halloween had officially arrived, and, as usual, control freak Caroline was in full swing. It was truly a wonder where she got the energy.

After meticulously decorating the school, she made her way to the house and started decking it out in spooky décor.

"Caroline, sweetie, love of my life, could you kindly tone it down to zero?" Cassandra playfully asked, throwing a pillow at her friend.

Caroline replied defensively, "Look, with all the weird juju that's been going on, I just want us to have some non-supernatural fun. Is that too much to ask?"

Trying not to laugh, Cassandra reassured her, "No, sweetie, it's not too much to ask, but don't you think you went a little overboard? I mean, a skull to burn at the fireplace?"

"Cassie, don't laugh, okay? It's not funny," Caroline shrieked.

Feeling concerned, Cassandra sat her down and asked gently, "Sweetie, I know you're stressed. What's going on?"

Caroline bit her lip, looking sheepish. "I followed you to my mom's workplace and overheard your conversation," she confessed.

"Caroline!" Cassandra scolded.

"I'm sorry," Caroline apologized. "It's just that you had this look on your face, and I knew you would have told me, but I just wanted to be sure, and Damon wouldn't stop bitching."

FLASHBACK

Cassandra picked up the phone call from Aunt Liz. "Hey, what's wrong?" she asked.

"Sweetie, I need you to come to the station. There's something we need to talk about, and please don't tell the gang," Aunt Liz explained.

Cassandra turned to the group and informed them that she was heading to the sheriff's office.

Upon arriving, she immediately asked, "Okay, I'm here. What's going on?"

Aunt Liz sighed, "Well, sweetie, there's no easy way to say this, but we were wrong."

Perplexed, Cassandra inquired, "Oh, and what were you wrong about?"

"It turns out, just because you read a couple of pages in a book doesn't mean you know everything. There are more vampires," Aunt Liz revealed.

Hearing the news, Cassandra sat up straight, the seriousness of the situation settling in. Even though she had an inkling of who was responsible, she didn't anticipate things would escalate to this extent.

"How many do you think there are?" Cassandra asked, her mind racing.
