Midgard, One Week Later
The days and nights went on as they always do in Midgard, in Kratos' house.
But nothing changed considering Berenice's situation. She did not open her eyes for a moment, nor did she give any indication that she was communicating with them or the environment. This probably meant that their lives would continue like this from now on if they didn't take drastic measures.

And when literally a whole week passes, Kratos' emotions finally reached despair and hopelessness.

At some point, he and Atreus implemented the plan, to ask Freya who exactly she gave that mysterious Vanir amulet to. They would go find him, and negotiate for the amulet. They would give to this man whatever it took, everything they had if needed for this particular amulet. And if they didn't get it by negotiation right away they would kill him to get it.
They were absolutely determined to save her.

On the day that they decided to act, they took their weapons, left Berenice in the care of the dwarves, since she needed no special care but protection, and went to meet Freya, back at Thamur's corpse where she would return to prevent her son from turn back sooner or later.

They indeed did find Freya there and, not having other solution for them she was ready to reveal to them who possessed the amulet. She would have told them.

But at that moment somehow Baldur found a way to escape the branches of Yggdrasil, probably with Odin's help and actually reached his mother.
He was full of rage, anger and hatred. He was like an animal. His only purpose was to kill his mother while she did not try to fight back.
But there with him came also an enraged father who would take out his hatred on Baldur after what he had done to his daughter, but only if he dared to touch Freya.

A violent, bloody battle broke out once again between the two gods and Freya tried to stop them, and then again like his father Atreus unleashed all his hatred on Baldur as well, mercilessly striking.

During the battle it seemed that Baldur had
the upper hand when he grabbed Atreus by his throat. At that exact moment, Atreus, with not other choice left somehow managed to grab his sister's amulet that had on his neck, that necklace with the braided mistletoe and he pinned it on Baldur's hand in order for him to be released.
At first this meant nothing but then, right after the mistletoe pierced Baldur's hand, it seemed that the Aesir god lost all the magic on his body that made him invincible and without feeling pain. Baldur's spell was finally broken.

The second round of that battle was Kratos and Atreus continuing to fight Baldur, and Baldur being in a masochistic state of madness, wanting to feel the pain in his body with every punch Kratos gave. Freya had tried to stop him multiple times but failed.

All this chaos finally ended with Kratos and Atreus' victory. All the pain he caused Berenice was now against him with each of their blows. He had been immobilized and defeated.
But before they could get to finished what they started, they both remembered that Berenice had sacrificed herself for this reason, for Freya protecting her son. With all done, Kratos, even though craving to make Baldur suffer a painful death, spared his life on the conditions that he would never touch Freya or his children again.

Freya had admitted the mistake that she had done to her son and also accepted full responsibility for them, asking him to forgive her, but since forgiveness was not in Baldur's heart, he decided not to open it to her.
Freya, capable of making her son's wish come true and determined to give him the happiness he craved at any cost, allowed him to actually kill her to make things right. She would be ready to give the payment with her death.
And Baldur accepted this price eventually.
