Three days later...
After this unexpected and unfortunate event in Odin's secret chamber, where Berenice realized her weakness, she was confined to stay inside the house by her father's orders and she devoted herself to some chores.
She cleaned the house until there was no dirty corner left, finished one more whole poem and tried to memorize and perfect her mother's recipes. She had no access to her weapons or armours, so she simply spent the remaining three days in dresses.
These days were boring but if anyone thought about it, Berenice was not that bothered with the calmness in her house, but rather by that feeling she had developed. The feeling that she could not talk openly about her fears and worries to anyone but her bird.Who should she open up to anyway? To her father who imprisoned her at her first sign of weakness? To her eleven year old brother? Or ro Mimir who became her father's back-eye? Her home began to feel more stranger and lonely in which she could not find a place of safety anywhere, now that her mother was gone.
She had little choice but to become a good quiet housewife for the time being. She does not know how long this peace will last but at least she knows in her heart that at some point she will regain her strength. That she will overcome this obstacle.
It is not possible for her, since she has already killed a goddess, spent so much time in the Underworld defeating every enemy that stood in her way, being prophesied as "Ylfrinn, Queen of the Valkyries", only for her to become an poor-fated housewife. The logical thing is to be patient and let time restore her strength. But how could this happen after so long that she did not stop fighting?
And when will she know if she is fit to fight if she is stuck at home? How will she regain her strength? The only thing certain for now is that Berenice hesitates to reveal to her father, her visit to the Underworld and her meeting with her lost relatives and victims of his. She cannot know how he will react. She went by mistake there but this remains a delicate matter. Even if Mimir is right that it is better to tell him while there is still time, she might have a better reason for keeping it from him.
Today started with the same quiet for everyone. As soon as Kratos and Atreus wake up they make their plans for the day and Berenice, since she cannot be a part of them, just makes her own plans for the day about food and what she can do while her father will is missing.
Usually while they were gone, she would either be cleaning the house, or thinking about her new poems, or sewing some garment. But now that he has finished both the work and the poems he has nothing special to do. Her father has hidden her weapons somewhere she cannot find them. She looked everywhere but could not find them.
Even if she intended to sneak out of the house from her father, without her weapons she cannot go out and remain vulnerable.Kratos had a good reason to take away her weapons. He knew that his daughter was stubborn but not stupid, naive enough to explore unarmed. That was the only way she would stay safe.
When he sees his daughter locked up in the house, not getting fresh air and not being allowed to explore the realms she wants, he is not happy about it. But there will never be a worse feeling than experiencing the loss of a child a second time. He already experienced the loss of two wives twice. He is not going to lose her again, no matter how she feels about his restrictions and rules...As Atreus prepares his bow and quiver, and Kratos his ax and blades, Berenice prepares some food for her brother. Bread and cheese, inside a handkerchief. As soon as she wraps it, she gives it to him, giving him a kiss as well.
When she used to give him treats and kisses in the past, he would complain and not accept them. But from the day Berenice awoke from her slumber he denied none of it. He accepted them and he even let her call him "Baby boy".
