They had made it to Owen's cabin as the sun was setting. His calling it a home was a bit outlandish as it had barely four walls and a roof. The group entered and Kain quickly laid Ryan down as he shuddered again, the electrical spasm coursing over him. Kain went to let go of Ryan and talk to the others, but Ryan held tightly onto Kain's arm and whispered, "Please, don't go. Please."
Kain sat down slowly, taking Ryan's hand in his own as Ryan clenched tightly as the pain's intensity grew, and then suddenly vanished. Ryan let out a breath of release but held onto Kain all the same.
Sihu had tried to heal him, but it seemed the imbalance in his nervous system was one that the dragon couldn't fix. The most she could do would be to relieve his pain, but since the bursts of pain only lasted a few seconds, but were excruciating, the only time he could let anyone know when they struck, was when the pain didn't have his teeth clamped shut tightly.
Owen was fervently talking with Elizabeth and Sihu, the dragon chiming in every now and then with her opinion. Owen finally raised himself off of the small couch in the room and said, "Regardless, they're dead and gone. We can rest tonight and head off on our own separate paths."
Kain held onto Ryan as he said, "Ryan won't be better for a few days, please, can he and I stay here?"
"Sure," He said, "But you gotta pay since you'll be the only one here. Now, I'm gonna head to bed, y'all find a space on the floor and sleep tight." Owen laid down a few feet away from Ryan, whom Kain had laid down next to, and was holding onto Ryan as another course of pain shot through him.
Kain gently held Ryan and whispered how everything was going to be okay, and he did so until Ryan fell asleep. Kain simply lay there, as Ryan slept, comforting him, as he thought about how he could help Ryan.
Maybe with the Fate curse, he could take some energy out of his system? But he was unrefined at this skill and didn't trust his ability to do so in a controlled manner. He wasn't going to add any energy to his system, that was what caused this mess in the first place.

Michael Elain sat in his chair, as the door slowly opened, and his son set forth. A knife in his hand, as Michael turned to look at him, "Son, you know you're not welcome here. Leave." Herbert Elain simply threw the dagger, and it buried itself in Michael's side, as Michael groaned and Herbert found himself decapitated on the ground, as Michael's men rushed to his aid and killed Michael's attacker.
As his men rushed to try and help him, Michael groaned, "You all get my fortune, evenly divided. Leave what is left to my son's daughter." His men continued to shake him, pumping their blood into him, even late into the night, when there was no chance for him to be alive again.
Kain and Ryan had failed the contract.

Kain felt weird, like a giddy type of weird. It was in the dead of night, and Kain had been up for all of it, and he felt fine. He didn't feel tired, or exhausted, or anything. Well, that wasn't true in necessity. Kain did feel something, he felt his heart break as he comforted his friend, and old emotions rose to the surface, emotions he thought he had gotten rid of a long time ago.
The pain kept Ryan awake as it shocked and violated him, burning his nerves, and making the elf collapse into tears which Kain quieted and comforted him. Kain did this through a variety of things, mostly hugging him and just being there for him. Which didn't help Kain keep the emotions under control. They were both in their late fifties, it wasn't so hard, and now Kain was a reborn corpse, he could live with Ryan for all of Ryan's life. It was possible.
When the sun finally rose, so did everyone else. Owen didn't look like he slept much, and he asked the group, "Kain, you called that man Ken. Do you know him?"
